Black vertical lines on flat screen

Vertical black lines appear, sometimes one and up to four of them at a time.

I have a 42" Samsung Plasma, less than 2 years old. This black vertical line in the middle right about 4-5" wide showed up. It's always there, the only change that I see with it is that after a few minutes with the TV on a thin red line will appear inside the black one. I've read that it could have something to do with the address board but I don't have no clue what that means. Has anyone had this issue resolved and is it costly?

a black vertical line has just appeared today on my 37 inch dynex tv how can i get it fixed

i have the sony bravia 42"(?). black vertical line appears at the right edge of where the "normal" screen view meets the blank portion of the full screen. i only see the black vertical line when i use the full or wide screen mode. is there a cure for this?

My screen has a vertical arched black line to the right of the middle with sometimes smaller lighter appearing corresponding lines beside it. You can't see it on all pictures but it looks like a tornado coming out of the sky on pictures with a big portion of sky. The line looks "burnt into" the screen and is not on the surface. Help, its only 16 months old, out of warranty of course. Is it cheaper to try to fix or buy another?

Same problem with the vertical black line just to the right of middle on screen. Comes and goes with no apparent rhyme or reason.

All plasma an lcd tvs have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times reseating the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They can sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, and the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken if you decide to tinker with em, the usually have lift locks that release them, but it is very easy to wreck em. Good luck.

If it is a single line top to bottom?? sounds like a bad panel. the reason is if it were a buffer module it would run only half way. this is a no repair problem as panels cost more than the plasma. also this is common on a plasma. 3-5 years.

Appears a black line vertically on the screen

hi all .ive had the same problem,a thick black line down screen.sometimes it flickers from top to bottom and other permantly in view.but i have solved it.forget your ic boards and taking apart tv.have you got either a ps3 or wii connected to tv.if so unplug power lead from socket and relocate in seperate socket.make sure the lead is completely free of any other leads and you might just find this works.i think the power lead creates some sort of frequency that the tv picks up .good luck hope it works

Black Vertical Bar

It will burn into the screen overtime. The Akai units have a resistor on the address board that feeds the PDP that usually has a crack in the solder on one or both ends of it. There are about 4 address boards that are right below the panel itself and the suspect one is the board right below the line that is appearing. Have someone with solder skills repair it.
