Sound drivers for Dell optiplex gx260

If you can help, would be GREATLY appreciated. i got an old Pentium 4 that i use for the internet, but last night i downloaded a file form a torrent that had a really nasty Virus in it. Wiped me pc out, so reformatted this morning, and have spent the day lookin for the right audio driver. Ive managed to sort everything else, but this one i'm havin MAJOR problems with. I use a streamed down version of XP that i've reformatted with twice before, but in the past for some reason, i was able to download the correct driver directly from Dell. Now, with EVERY driver i download, its goin thru the Installsheild wizard, then at the end, Driver not found, please reboot. when i do this, nothing has changed and i'm still without audio. I'm probably doin something spectacularly wrong, but i'm a kinda former Cannabis addict (18 years of continuous blazing) so i cant really remember how i managed to, Blindly, LOL, sort these out before.

I am having a similar problem, I have a soundmax driver and my computer found the devices but when i try to play music, its says its an error add hardware(sound devices), so then i went to the control panel and went to sounds and it says no sound devices. This is frustrating because when i look up the soundmax files it comes up with no problem and my computer tells me its found and is working properly. Can anyone help me?

nur-a alam. This solution worked. I bought a used Dell gx260. No sound device. Went to the Dell driver download site, entered my computer specs and up came the audio driver, r56339. I downloaded it and opened it. Then it installed. I just had to restart and I heard the sound as it was shutting down. Thanks so much.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260. Was having problems getting it to work. This is how I got it working. Went to dell and downloaded the R56339 file under audio. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Then after the install when to Start, Control Panel, Performance & Maintenance, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Then under Other Devices Unknown Audio, Right Click and pick update Driver,
Have windows look under "C:delldriversR56339SMAXWDMW2K_XP" I think that you can do it with other models also. Then Reboot your system and you should have sound.

Instead of using Dell for your sound driver try the manufacturer of your soundcard. If all else fails join drivers.com they have a vast selection of drivers.

First go inside your bios (press F2 on pc startup) then Find a setting called "integrated hardware"(or something like that), then find sound and enable it. Exit and save changes.

In windows got to dells driver page: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R56339&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=67126
Download and install the driver.

My Dell Optiplex gx260 Pentium 4 Flat CPU doesn't Display anything, and Power light is Orange.. Please help me out

You say the power light is orange--I'm assuming that you mean the monitor.
This indicates the monitor is not receiving a signal from the computer.
Assuming that the computer actually powers up (fan runs, you can hear the hard drive being accessed, etc) then your problem lies in the video card.

If, on startup, you do see the BIOS info and maybe even the Windows splash screen before your monitor goes dark, then the problem lies in the video card drivers. In this case, starting in safe mode will work and allow you to download and install new drivers.
