Frigidaire Dryer clunking sound

Before the problem a bed sheet was caught between the drum and frame. Now it makes a thumping sound when drum rotates completely while running. Need to know what can be done to solve the problem and how to open the dryer to get access to the problem. Thank you

    Same problem

  • EODLDO Dec 12, 2008

I found the cause of the problem to be the he drum rubbing on the top of the fnedan housing inside the dryer. The seam where the sheet metal that is used to construct the drum is joined together rubs on the top of the fan housing. This causes a thumping sound every time the seam comes around and rubs on the fan housing. I believe it was caused by the movers as we just moved to VA from FL. Does the drum need to be aligned or balanced?

Try aligning it first. It won't be hard to do. You can use points of reference to let you know if you are aligned correctly.

Maytag dryer

If this is the metal drum model of Maytag dryer, then the drum is likely out of round and will be evidenced by a broken spot weld on the seam where the drum is welded. I have had to replace mine for that very issue. Not cheap! Hope that is not the case for yours, but just rotate the drum by hand and you will see a high and low spot during the rotation. If the high and low spots are consistent, you know your drum is out of round and likely has busted spot welds. You can run it like that for a while if you can stand the thumping. If no out of round condition, then check the roller alignment and see if the bracket got tweaked not allowing it to rest on the drum. Again...if it touche s the drum and then leaves the drum as the drum is rotate by hand, the drum is out of round. Hope this helps

How to care for your mattress

Although mattresses come with a warranty, this does not mean that you should not care for it properly. The following is a list of ways in which you can further the life of your mattress and keep it in great condition.

Ensure proper installation

Make sure to let your mattress breathe - when you take a vacation, do not leave sheets on your bed; try stripping the bed twice a week and leaving it without sheets until the time you are going to bed

Do not jump on the bed - keep children from jumping on your mattress

Keep your bed from sagging by using a supportive bed frame

Use a mattress pad to absorb moisture/perspiration that can be easily removed and washed

To help minimize wear and maximize comfort make sure to rotate your mattress every two weeks during the first three months after purchase and every two months after that

Here is a great guide on how to properly rotate you mattress:

Inglis dryer making thumping sound when drying

is the unit level, open the dryer try moving the drum around, see if the drum loose, there mite something in the machine that got caught on the drum some how and when it goes around it bangs,
you mite try spinning the dryer without turning it on and listen to the drum and see if you can hear any thing hitting the drum or what is make those load sounds. if you cannot turn the drum manually you mite bribe a guy or friend to check it out for a beer or glass of wine, and if they down drink bake some cookies.

good luck rod

Creda simplicity TVU1 tumble dryer is making a thumping noise while drying

Hi dave hemming.
I do not believe it is a bearing that is causing your thumping noise
*****************************************************************************
No...you do not need a new drum...all you need is new drum rollers
You probably have a flat spot on one of the rollers, it will make the thumping sound when the drum rotates.
Go to the following webpage and get your drum rollers and install them and that should take care of the noise you are hearing
Please take time to rate me

Thumping/rubbing sound in drum

The belt tensioner roller has a flat spot caused by a worn bearing that catches and stops whilet the drum is turning. This causes the flat spot and the noise its making. You can purchase a new roller by itself and do change the belt the same time too

Thumping sound from loose drum

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve you noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

Dryer is making loud thumping noise.

Take off the back panel of the dryer and look at the motor and belt turning the drum. There may be something caught on the drum and is pinned in place causing the noise. The motor could be loose on the platform and needs to be tightened. It is probably something physical and seen causing the noise.
