My AT&T wireless phone (Blackberry Curve) is on the same frequency as my Linksys router. It knocks me offline constently unless I have the phone turned off. I thought the router was bad until I bought a second one and had the same problem.

When you log into router you go to the Wireless tab and from there you are able to change the default wireless channel. It should be like a drop down box where you can click and have the option to change it.

Alright with linksys routers you go to the IP address in your browser usually 192.168.1.1 and then click on the wireless tab on the top. Make sure it's in manual mode then there should be a drop down with the list of channels. If you have any more questions just post them and out of curiousity why do you want to change the signal frequency?

Hi,
As you have changed the default IP Address of the router, you can access the router by using the newly assigned IP (192.168.1.11) and new username and password (if you have made any changes to the defaults).

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

How do i change the channel

In the 802.11b/g (2.4Ghz) standard there are 11 channels (US) to choose from, all but three are overlapping channels. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. The channels can be changed to avoid interference from other wireless devices that run on the 2.4 Ghz frequency range (I.E. 2.4Ghz cordless phones, bluetooth, and X-10).

Step 1 Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router in the address bar. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1. At the login, enter your username (admin) and password (default password is blank).

Step 2 Click on the Home tab at the top of the configuration page and then click the Wireless button on the left side.

Step 3 Select a channel from the drop-down menu. For best results, use channel 1, 6, or 11.

Step 4 Click Apply and then click Continue to save your settings.

In most cases, you only need to change the channel on the router. Most wireless adapters will "find" your wireless network by the SSID you assigned to the router, and then will automatically lock onto the channel of the router.

My HP 309 series printer will not stay connected to my wireless network. Can someone help? I end up having to go through wireless network wizard all over again with my WEP password. Very time consuming!

Hello geekgurl !

There are a few things you have to check

When choosing a location for your wireless router, avoid having the following items between the wireless router and wireless devices on the network: long distances, walls, other wireless devices (like cordless phones), and large appliances.

Don't use two wireless routers in your home unless you are very knowledgeable about wireless networking. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides your wireless router as part of their equipment, don't add another wireless router to it or attempt to change the existing settings without the ISP's help or knowledge.

Make the following settings on your wireless router, or verify that they've already been made:

1-Change the manufacturer's default name for the network name (SSID) to something unique.

2-Set the broadcast SSID to "on" or "enable". Note that "on" or "enable" is typically the default setting.

On the printer:

1- See if the wireless indicator lamp is illuminated. Can you turn on the wireless radio from the control panel of the printer?

Print a Network Configuration page and a Wireless Network Test report from your printer's control panel, if available.

* Does the Wireless Network Test report indicate trouble?

* Do the reports indicate that the printer is connected to your wireless router, and not to a neighbor's? The network name the printer is connected to will be shown on the both the Network Configuration page and Wireless Network Test report.

* Compare the printer's IP address to the gateway IP address. They should have a similar format (for example, the gateway IP address might be 192.168.0.1 and the printer IP address 192.168.0.5). If the printer has an IP address similar to 169.254.XXX.XXX, it probably is not connected to your wireless network.

* On some printers, the Network Configuration Page will list all wireless networks detected in your area. Is your network listed among those found? Does it have good signal strength?

* Are there several networks on your same channel or using channels close to your channel? You should use a channel at least 5 channels away from the closest used channel. Consider changing your wireless router's channel to 1, 6 or 11.

* Make sure your computer is not connected through a VPN (Virtual Private Network). You cannot access devices on your wireless network while connected to a VPN.

* Disable your operating system's firewall and your security system's firewall and re-test. If this fixes the problem open ports in the firewall.

HP's Network Diagnostic Utility can also be useful

Check if theres anyway to set an Static IP (does not change) on your printer instead of a Dynamic Hp (constantly changes)

Good Luck !

I have Dlink 615 model router. i reset one time and now i want to change again my name and password but i cant log into. I try admin in with the IP address and also my user name and password but i cant get...

When you reset your router the IP address will revert back to its factory default IP address and access information, if you changed the IP address prior to the reset you will have to use the default IP.
default IP: 192.168.0.1 (make sure that your network cards IP address is somthing similar like 192.168.0.2 and not 192.168.1.2)
Default username: admin
Default pass: leave blank

If you are still having issues let me know.

I purchased a wre54g range expander and have tried everything but it doesnt work

Who is the manufacturer of your wireless router?
check the IP address of your router.
connect the computer to the router and check the Ip address of the computer and the default gateway number. Default gateway is the IP address of your router. suppose the default gateway is 192.168.1.1. then open the set up page of the router . check the wireless settings of the router SSID ,channel and the security settings. Do not change the settings on the router.
If you are using WPA2 security settings them that will network on the WRE54G.
Now your range expander and the router IP addresses should be in the same range. Suppose you router IP address is 192.168.x.y and the IP address of the WRE54G is by default 192.168.1.240.
Now the x in the router IP address should be 1.
If it is, then connect the WRE to the router and open the set up page of WRE. change the wireless settigns on the WRE and power cycle the WRE and the router.
It should work

Problems with my new WNR834B

try to customize your wireless settings. change the wireless name/ssid to something else and change the wireless channel as well. verify also if there's a wireless security enabled, if it has you need to use the correct wireless security/network key when connecting your laptop wirelessly. you can go to the router's setup page to verify your wireless settings by typing the ip address of your router to the address bar of your web browser, http://192.168.1.1 (note: by default the ip address of the router is 192.168.1.1 unless you have changed it to something else. the default username is "admin" and the default password is "password")

hope this'll help you

ciao!

Wireless channel

The ethernet cable connecting the router to the WAN doesn't require a channel. The channel setting is there for when laptop computer connects to the wireless router.

Channels 6 and 11 are mostly used in this scenario.

Does your wireless router communicate with your Internet provider wirelessly?

Hope this helps :) Please leave a rating. Thanks..
