Gateway 4026GZ lost wireless ability

4 or 5 months ago, I tried to do a windows update. It froze up the computer. I was able to get the computer working again however now the wireless connection won't work. A friend has brought his computer over and can get wireless so I know it is not my router or cable.

I've tried to download the suggested driver from the Gateway website but it won't load up. It gives an error.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Sarah

Make sure your wireless card is on (use Fn + F2 to toggle on and off).
Also make sure it is enabled by going to control panel -> network connections and right clicking on your wireless network device and going down to enabled.

My wireless connection has lagspikes

I would recommend unplugging your router and modem, then plugging your modem in and waiting for it to establish then plugging in your router and that should solve the problem. Your router should have the ability to upgrade the firmware by going to its web interface. To find the address go to a command prompt and type ipconfig and find your default gateway. Type that series of numbers into the address bar of your web browser and u should be able to update it from there.

I installed two 512 MB DDR1 333MHz PC2700 memory modules in my Gateway 4026GZ laptop. They all cause the laptop to freeze up with the screen not working. Tried different memory modules (same 512MB)

Hi

Thank you for your query

According to the spec of the laptop that should be ok, it may the memory modules are bad

Please try the following

1) Try putting just the one module in, in turn, if it starts to freeze with the one or the other you will know which one is faulty

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank you again

I have a Gateway T-series (Model:W350A) laptop. I just reinstalled Windows Vista and now the computer is not recognizing the built in wireless card. How do I get it to recognize it? Or how do I install the...

Plug in an ethernet cable into your ethernet card port on the left hand side of your laptop. When it connects to the internet click on the Windows update icon in the system tray. It should show you a Realtek Wireless RTL8187b wireless adapter driver update. Install it, you may need to reboot, but in any case you will have wireless networks available to you and you can pull out the ethernet cable. Good luck.

Windows vista laptop lost connection to the internet

Start off simple. Try a different port on the router. If that doesn't work, try a new cable. If that doesn't work, go to the Device Manager in Windows. (Right-click My Computer, select Manage, go to Device Manager). Does the card look okay? Has it been disabled or need a driver update? If we're still looking at issues then I would take a look at your router security. How many DHCP licences do you allowed to be assigned? Also do you have security in place (WEP/WPA, Mac Filtering, SSID Broadcast)? If you are light on security and only have a few assignable DHCP licences, you may have neighbors leeching your internet access.

To clarify: DHCP assigns a network IP address to each device on its network. Most Linkys routers have a default of 10, you may have reduced this yourself. If you have, you've limited the # of devices allowed on the network. So if you have 3 DHCP licenses available, and a couple neighbors are leeching, your Dell may not get assigned an ip.

If you still need further help, let me know.

I cant connect just one network

Be sure that your wireless network is working
Check your wireless router settings
Check if you see any other wireless network available on your computer
Test connection, see if you pulled an IP address
Go to the Windows desktop
Select Start then Run
In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
At the command prompt type: ipconfig
4. What does it read as the IP address?
* If it reads 192.168. something dot something then you are pulling
an IP address and are connected to the network. The problem is
software related, check your firewall, and wireless card configuration.
Also check any WPA or WEP encryption keys. Check with the respective
manufactures.
* If it reads 0.0.0.0 for the IP address you are not connected to the network.
* Check your connection configuration and the adaptor.
* Check with the respective manufactures.
STEP TWO/ Basic troubleshooting continued....Testing the adaptor
1. Go to Windows desktop
2. Select Start then Run
3. In the text box type: cmd (WIN98/SE type command)
A DOS window will open.
4. At the prompt type: ping 127.0.0.1 (reserved IP address for all adaptors)
5. Check the line that reads "packets sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0
A. Zero is good, the adaptor is working. Again check the connection
configuration,and the adaptor configuration.
It may be a power issue especially with older or less expensive computers
or wireless cards.
* Check the antenna location, are you inside or outside, look for interference.
* Check with the respective manufactures.
B. If it reads all 4 packets lost, the adaptor is not functioning.
* Check and update the drivers, Contact the respective manufactures.
* If it shows any number of packets lost (you are dropping packets)
it is an adaptor or signal strength issue (generally form the laptop side,
not being able to reach back) especially with older or less expensive
computers or wireless cards.
* Update the drivers
* Check antenna location, or distance from the signal
* Contact the respective manufactures.
