On my Sony PCV-RZ26G computer I recently installed a 500GB hard drive. With windows XP installed (SP2 or 3) the system fails to find the drive on a cold start resulting in a "Disk Boot Failure"...

try installing afresh from scratch.....
dont clone
try use a smaller partition for C (say 60 - 80GB)
boot from the XP disk(change boot seq in BIOS to boot from CDROM)
and install fresh copy....

Graphics card or motherboard problems...

You've run the antivirus. Next, try to run malware & spyware programs. THen, run a good registry cleaner. This will aim the right things with the right things. If you made ANY changes to hardware, software, programs or data, there will be changes in your registry.

My computer is stuck on the startup screen

Does it have the options for starting in safe mode, but no matter what, it reboots?

If so, use a winxp cd ( asuming you have winxp installed) and boot from cd like your going to install windows. When it loads it should have an option screen thats blue with white text.

Select R for repair. it will close and go to the command prompt. Then type in ( chkdsk C: /P ) exactly.

Let it run the repair and when done, type: Exit or just reboot, remove disk and let it boot normally. when that screen comes up with white text saying to select boot option, just pick, Start windows normally.

It should then work fine and go into windows.

If this fixes it, then some how your boot files got erased and the repair fixed them. This happens alot with Dell computers. Its random and usually happens after installing something. So remember how to do this in case it happens again,

Good Luck

I currently own a Philips Freevents LS2400 machine and would like to know how to gain access to the BIOS. The information is hard to find anywhere on the web so I do hope you can assist in the matter.

Moat PC's enablae you to enter the bios by either pressing one of he following keys while booting up your computer

F1
F2
Delete

Try each of these keys individually on each boot and see if it helps.

Random Power Loss on Dell XPS 600

Possible reasons for random rebooting:
1. CPU Fan/Heatsink is loose Restarting due to Overheat Prevention. Im guessing the processor is LGA775. if u can open up the case and see if any of the four plugs and sockets has come loose, then that might be it.

2. Not Enougth power from PSU (Power Supply Unit). if it was built for gaming im explecting a PSU of at least 750Watts

3. Harware malfunction. When booting up, any error beeps?

4. Software error. Before logging in a user account, leave the computer on for a while if nothing happens then most likely be OS problem.

Your best bet is to reinstall Windows

When i turn on my philips freevents 11nb5800 notebook on, after the philips logo then the bar that has windows loading above it, the screen just stays on this and does not start up. i have done the memory...

when you power on your system start tapping F8 key so that you get advanced options
choose safe mode and press enter
it will ask you about operating system
press enter again
when you get user name options log on using an Administrator
you will get a pop up and you just have to click no
it will give you option for a system restore
choose a highlighted date when you are sure that the system was working fine
within 10 mins your system will restore and will boot to windows
log on and hopefully the issue will get resolved
or else let me know what happened.
