Sounds like your Closed Caption has gotten turned on. Try this solution...
1) Press the MENU button 2) Use the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to scroll to CLOSED CAPTION 3) Use the VOLUME UP/DOWN to until MODE is OFF 4) Use the CHANNEL UP/DOWN to scroll to FINISH 5) Use the VOLUME UP to save and exit.
Check your closed-caption settings and make sure it's turned off. You'll probably find it's now set to text mode. The set is blanking out the part of the screen where text would be displayed, but there isn't any.
Go into the menu and find "closed captions. Once there, turn off the "text" function. If you don't use closed captions, turn it all off. This will make your box go away. Let me know if I can be of further assistance
The black box your are seeing on the screen is the box to display text. It is listed under your "cc" closed captioning setting as T1, T2 etc. Go into your closed captioning and shut off the text. You can still leave closed captioning on or off. The text system was never really used but they put it on all of the TV's.
