I have had to replace the lamp twice before and the correct light came on to let me know. This time, the orange power on light blinks several times and then the set makes a sort of high pitched noise...It then continues to try but never turns over and powers up. Any advise?

If the second light is blinking to orange or red, that is usually the lamp indicator light on an LG DLP tv. That indicates your bulb needs replaced, or something surrounding the bulb has failed (like the cooling fan for the bulb for example) IF you have a spare bulb handy, I'd replace the bulb, keeping in mind if you touch any part of a new bulb with your bare hands, you just cut the life of the bulb by more then half.
It most likely burned out the Lamp. DLP TV's need time to cool the Lamp after power is turned off.The fan will run for a few minutes after a normal power off condition from the front control button or the remote. When you lost power, the lamp was still hot and was unable to cool down. You can replace the Lamp yourself.Go to www.dlplamps.com
I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working. The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode. Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it. Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced. If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp. The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual. I hope this helps you.
continuous blinking green light indicates that the capacitors have failed on the DM pwb. You need the V26 DLP DM repair kit which is available at the following link under their repair category. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
