TV is about 10 yrs old. In setup mode i have autoprogram and below that i have channel memory. Channel memory has a stored or erased option and i have stored all channels that i normally get. When i select autoprogram the channel memory starts erasing all the channels that i have stored. Even as i store each channel one by one, they still will not come in. TV was given to me and when i first plugged it in i was able to get ten or so channels but since i tried auto program.....no channels. Thank you very much.

It sounds that the main system control memory IC to your TV is faulty. Replace it, and re-program it with initial data values. Contact any service technician. The unit is telling you to run autoprogram to program in your channels, make sure also the TV is in cable mode and not TV mode which is for local channels, If you have cable do a autoprogram so the set can program in channels. Auto Scan is the same as autoprogram.
Your TV has to be initilized. It should be retuned to get the channels memorized in its memory section. Then only you can get the channels stored. Hopes that you have its remote control hanset with you. Replace two new cells in it and proceed the folloing steps. Connect ariel to its back socket before doing these.
Press power button on the front panel of your tv. The initial setup screen appears.
Press Ch+ on the remote control handset or on the front panel of your TV to start auto program, or Ch_ button to exit.
The initial setup screen will appear each time you switch on the tv until you perform autoprogram.

Press Pr Dn button to hilight cable. Press [+] to select.
Press Prog Up or Prog Dn to hilight On or Off according to how you connected your TV. Press [+] to select.

Try hooking up the dvd player and turning it on. Then use the setup and add/erase channel feature to look thru all of the channels. On my older GE tv I found that channel 91 was the correct channel for the video input. I saw the logo for the dvd player on this channel. I just added that channel and now it works. Your channel might be different.
With the menu set to cable signals, the autoprogram should catch all of the cable channels. The Cable Channel option allows you to use either channel 3 or 4 as the "cable" channel. This is when you have an external box that you use to tune in cable rather than the TV directly. The easiest way here is to autoprogram the TV while playing a VCR tape. That will insure that channel 3 is included.
Use the original remote, or the menu button on the tv. Press menu. Find "setup" or "channels" or the word cable or autoprogram. Choose cable. Then choose autoprogram or find channels. It will scroll up all the channels and stop in a minute and store them all in memory. The words may be slightly different on your tv, but the procedure will work. Play around in the menus. You will find it.
