Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Toshiba l45-7423 laptop has two memory slots. With 512 in each, runs ok. With 2 gig in top slot, 512 in bottom slot, runs ok. with 2 gig in bottom slot, says it has memory errors. this limits me to 2.5 gig max memory. I would like to go to 4 gig. any opinions about cause of problem? toshiba says this pc will take 4 gig of memory max.

    Raizen,
Thanks for your response. This is a laptop so it has only 2 memory card sockets. They are stacked. If I put a 2 Gig in the bottom and a 512 in the top, it will not start up. Says it has memory error and even gives the address of the error. If i swap them and put the 512 in the bottom slot and the 2 Gig on top it starts up and shows 2.5 Gig of memory when I check the hardware stats in Vista. It also shows the same error if i try a 1 Gig in the bottom slot. I am wondering if the PC has a problem, not the memory.

HI embreelynn,

just want to check, did you left the top slot open when you put the 2gig in the bottom slot, if you do, I suggest you try it with the 512 in the top slot and the 2gig in the bottom, the reason is that some mobo implements "banking" which means that you'll have to fill in the 1 mem slot before the using 2nd, 3rd and so on.

hope this helps, regards.

that is a good idea to match the memory cards like matching four tires on same card

Wont boot 2 windows xp home when 2 gig memory installed, works with 1 gig, tried both slots with both 1 gig sticks.Screen goes black.

Seems the memory is not comatable with the motherboard. Replace the old memory and visit http://www.crucial.com, they have a scanner tool which will confirm what mem can be installed.

RAM Recognition 835GM PC Desktop

the memory is dual channel, so you have to use matched memory for it to work 1gig in each slot if possible, check the 1 gigs and 512's to see if they run at the same bus speed, if they are not matched there is your problem try a gig and a 512 in slot 0 to see if it picks the memory up, also there is sometimes an option in the bios to dissable dual mode

Ram problem

Kamel,
First of all you should know howmuch maxim RAM your board will support and which type of DIMM's it accepts. You can see on your motherboard manufacturer's site.

  1. Try each on in all slots one by one to verify all slots are well. if not try to clean and check again.
  2. If its ok then put both together and check out, if not then try to change the place and clean the contact point as well.

Thanks
Iqbal

Acer Aspire T-180 Memory Upgrade question

Hello, You might be able to add 2GB more. 1GB per slot. You need to get the model # off your motherboard and verify what the maximum amount of memory it will support. 1GB per slot would be 4GB total but some Operating systems will only support 3GB. So some might be wasted if that is the case. You would need to use the same memory type. So if existing is PC2-4300, use the same. Hope this helps.

Gateway sb-4100-b won't recognize new memory

Check the owners manual of your computer for the correct installation of 2 sticks of memory, this can be critical on computers with 2 banks of 2 slots, it will also tell you the maximum ram that will work. If you do not have the manual, go to the manufactures website and then go to the support link, and browse for memory installation. BPCS
