I have the same toshiba burner. You should manually assign a right sector number to a so-called break point between layers of a DVD9, in order to start burning, or to burn successfully with this Toshiba. This requires profound knowledge, and special progs to use. "Imgburn" (freeware) is one of a few.

What kind of blank DVDs do I use to copy an old VHS video tape to the DVD? I have the Sony RDR-VX530. When I put a DVD in, I get an Error message saying that I have the wrong DVD.

According to page 30 of the operation manual, the following information may help;

DISCS THAT CAN BE USED IN THIS RECORDER:

4x-speed or slower DVD+RWs
2x-speed or slower DVD-RWs (version 1.1, 1.1 with CPRM) (Content Protection for Recordable Media)
4x-speed or slower DVD-RWs (version 1.2, 1.2 with CPRM)
16x-speed or slower DVD+Rs
16x-speed or slower DVD-Rs (version 2.0, 2.0 with CPRM, version 2.1, 2.1 with CPRM)
2.4x-speed DVD+R DL (dual layer) discs
(when using DVD+R DL discs, see the instructions supplied with them prior to use)
4x-speed or slower DVD-R DL (dual layer) discs

DISCS THAT CANNOT BE RECORDED ON:

DVD-RWs (version 1.0)
DVD+RWs that are not 2.4x-speed compatible
8 cm discs (mini-DVDs)
DVD-RAM (any speed/any version)
DVD-R DL (dual layer) discs in VR mode

A free pdf copy of the manual for this model can be downloaded online.

Hopefully that provides some insight to your question.

I have a JVC DVD-R DL. I understand this is a

It sounds like your DVD drive itself is faulty.

Does the same thing happen on another DL DVD drive?

Unless the DVD is somehow scratched or cracked, I've never seen a DVD have read problems, as the data storage medium is encased in plastic.

The DVD drive's laser must shine through the first layer to see the second layer. Therefore if the DVD player's lens needs cleaning, or the DVD has smudges/scratches, the second layer will be the most likely to have read-errors.

Hi,

this is due to the settings of your player.
you should have settings for SP ( Standard Play ) LP ( Long Play ) et,c.
the quality may differ slightly, but you need to refer to your user manual for how to adjust the recording times. also if your dvd supports DL ( dual layer disks ) this will obviously double the recording times.

Unable to play back

Shouldn't matter what the OS (operating system) is. What you need to do is to make sure you convert the movie to proper format which would allow you to view on DVD player after burning. Usually you need a seperate software. Your DVD player should say what formats are compatible. Usually listed on unit or in manual. Avi is a great format but when you burned it to DVD your computer probably created a Data Disk. Which would make it unreadable by DVD player. Check to make sure you are able to convert to format that's readable by your player.Good Luck

Hi, I bought Bose 3 2 1 SERIES 11 Home system. but i cannot play wedding dvds on my system. All hollywood movies plays ok. I tried Verbatim DVD R & DVD-R there is no picture but the sound is there....

I would say that as with many manufacturers, the Bose 3-2-1 is meant to play Dual Layer DVDs. Since they hold data on 2 separate layers of the disc, these hold twice the amount of data than the Dvd+r or -r that you're using. When the Bose system tries to read the 2 layers and only finds one it, will not recognize the dvd. If you don't have a Dual-Layer burner and Dual Layer discs to burn to, you should upgrade your burning equipment. They're not that expensive these days. Cheers!

DVD TSST Corp CD/DVDW TS-H552B. Computer crash using DVD+R

I tried using a blank DVD+R 16X and as soon as I closed the DVD drawer the computer crashed. No warning, no blue screen just straight to a restart. If I left the DVD in it cycled through back to a restart.
I tried the latest firmware from Samsung but it still happened S10.
I then tried an HP firmware update HP13 from their driver update page and all is well.
If you need to know more of my computer spec then please ask.
