It seemslike you can't play games with your PSP. You also mentioned about the error "8010850f". Don't worry you can remove this error by applying the options below andthere's no need to delete anything or need of formatting your PSP.
Option 1: Go to account management by signing in to PSN on your PSP. Once underaccount management go to activation/activate - games then activate the PSP.
Option 2: Connect your PSP to your PS3 using a USB. Then go to accountmanagement - activate/deactivate - PSP - games.
After you processed either of the 2 options you can now play your games with nointerruption.
If it is bricked, it will not boot up at all, it will hang at a black screen. Only method of repair is to take into consideration any configuration that has not been done. Such as games being run as 1.5 mode instead of the current firmware, ect. If so, reflashing is your best bet.

The entire row of buttons on the bottom are on the same strip under the cover. This strip plugs into the power board and it can be checked out with a continuity tester, just look for the 2 pins that show cont when the pad is pushed on the strip. You can get new strips on the internet for a few bucks. Easy to replace if you can get the cover off, just 6 screws but youll void any warranty you may have on it as 2 of the screws are under a tamper proof sticker in the battery compartment.
to remove/replace the umd drive, you first have to take everything out of it - from the front. http://www.consolezombie.com/PSP/PSP_Laser_Replacement.html is a good tutorial on how to do all of that. :D
