Re: COLOR INK NOT WORKING
Try unplugging the power cord, and replugging it after 1 minute has passed. (Turning the printer on and off with the switch does not work). If nothing changes, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
You can also visit the Lexmark website, to see what solutions are being offered for printer problems. They usually have a number to call, in case you need to talk to a technician.

I have a epson printer that does the same thing no matter what i did it would not print anything. The printer companies do that so you will have to buy a new color ink cartridge just to print anything.I think its wrong but who are we to say, when cartridges are $ 50 bucks I think we should have a choice. Sorry I could'nt be more help.
INK PROBLEM Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
A firmware update for your model addresses print quality issues. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark S400 Series Firmware Update. If more than one download is listed for your model, choose the first
download in the list. If it is the wrong firmware level, an error message will
tell you which firmware level is correct. Try to print again to verify that the print quality has improved. Should the problem continue, it could be that the printhead itself is the problem. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.
here's a solution i came across when dealing with the same problem. apparently the printer expects all of the cartridges to be full and has a sensor to make sure they are even when only printing black. hope this helps!
Doesnt sound like you Used Genuine Cartirdges? Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!! That sounds like your problem. In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc. These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.
I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.
That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.
So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......
I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. . IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR. This is the only advice I can give you. The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Click on link below.: http://www.hm2k.com/posts/parts-inside-your-printer-are-at-the-end-of-their-service-life I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues. I replaced the Office Max ink substitute with an original Canon ink. This did not help. I decided this problem most probably had to be a printer head issue, so I gave up and bought a new printer instead.
