Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Kenmore elite dryer

My dryer will not start. It has power to it, the timer sound like it is trying to work, slight hum, drum spins freely by hand, voltage to outlet o.k., seemed like the clothes were getting extra hot lately, It worked last night but stopped with about 10 minutes left on a 90 minute cycle. I see others have the same problem but have not seen a solution. Can you help, oh mighty appliance GURU??

You wouldn't be trying to **** up to the Guru now, would you? :o)

I have a couple of links for you to look at to see if this can shed some light on your problem.

If your dryer is running, but not heating refer to this link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

If your dryer is not running at all, this link goes into a little more depth about dryer problems and how to diagnose the symptoms:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385301-thorough_dryer_advice

The first thing you need to do is figure out the symptoms. Keep in mind, the motor operates off 110-120VAC. The heating circuits require 220-240VAC to operate. If you are missing one leg of the 220VAC service at the outlet, the dryer will run, but the heating circuits will not work - double check your outlet first. If your dryer has been running extremely hot, and if you are experiencing longer dry times, you have a ventilation problem you need to resolve. Extremely long ventilation ducting, runs with a lot of bends, or ventilation that runs through an attic or crawl space, can contribute to heating efficiency problems. I would suspect you have a blown thermal fuse (located on the air blower housing - white plastic in color). You will need to remove the lower panel under the door to see it.

If you get confused, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

I have a Kenmore elite he5 gas dryer and when it is turned on it will not spin. Can you tell me why?

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings OTHER WISE CHECK FOR A LOOSE WORN BELT

Dryer turns on but does not start when i push the start button. The timer comes on all the buttons light up, light is on inside dryer, but does not start just makes a sound when i hit the start button

if it's a humming sound the motor is bad or something is jammed keeping the motor from spinning.open the dryer door and move the drum by hand if the drum can't be moved the belt could be jammed on something or there's something stuck in the blower wheel.the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into.if you can move the drum then you most likely have a bad motor, try spinning the drum and push the door switch in and have someone else push the push to start button and see if the dryer will start,if the motor has a flat spot it could start like this.let me know what you find

Motor/Drum doesn't turn/spin & belt appears to be OK

With the belt off can you spin the motor freely by hand? If no then the bearings are froze and the motor has to be replaced. If yes and the motor will not start when power is applied then the motor needs to be replaced. If it starts without the belt on but not with, then the drum is bound somewhere and has to be freed.

Kenmore dryer problem

Good day,
Sounds very much like the motor is going bad. Very slim chance that the timer could cause that problem because of pitted contacts, but that would not explain away the noise when trying to start.
Here's a good tutorial if you want to replace the motor.

Model # 110.68932792....wont run just makes a humming sound....starts smelling funny if left alone

the humming sound is coming from the motor, spin the drum by hand if it feels like it's hard to move you could have something stuck in the blower wheel, the blower wheel is behind the duct that the lint filter slides into,or the belt could be hung up on something,if it moves freely you have a bad motor

Kenmore elite 110.63032101 dryer has electric, start button seams to be working, but pushing door button and turning drum still won't start it?

is the motor humming or did you start it like this before by spinning the drum,if so you have a bad motor, also is the door switch making a clicking sound when you push it in and out,it should if it doesn't you could have a bad door switch, read it out with a meter and make sure you have power to the motor,

Kenmore 62811 just stopped working. Hear a slight hum.

a humming sound could be the motor or check to see if something is stuck in blower wheel, try spinning the drum by hand to see if anything is locked up stopping the motor from spinning

I have a Kenmore Elite Gas Dryer in which the drum does not turn. After selecting the mode switch and depressing the start button, the dryer only hums with no turning of the drum.

Disconnect the dryer from its power source before servicing!

Inspect for a brokren drum belt. The humming noise is probably the motor running with no belt. You can easliy identify this by opening the dryer door, rotate the drum by hand by using a baffle as a gripping point. If the drum rotates freely, the belt is gone. If you feel a slight degree of resistance or drag, then you will have to go internal to inspect for the belt and associated rollers and idler pulley to make sure they are free rolling.
