Re: Maintenance Kit usage
Call 1-800-835-6100. Xerox knows there is a problem with those displays and will replace it free of charge. Thats a known problem they will resolve. You should be able to open your browser, usually internet explorer and type in the printers IP address in the address box. That will show you all the printer information you need.

Clearing the Maintenance Count and Service Message: HP LaserJets
If the display panel on your HP LaserJet reads "Perform Printer Maintenance", "Perform User Maintenance", "Maintenance Kit Low", "Maintenance Kit Very Low", or anything along those lines it means your printer needs a preventative maintenance kit, which includes a fuser and various rollers. Once you have installed the maintenance kit the message will only go away if you clear the maintenance count.
Reset the maintenance-kit counter 1. Turn the product power off and then on. 2. When XXX MB appears on the control-panel display, press and hold down the OK button until all three control-panel lights flash once, and then stay on. This might take up to 10 seconds. 3. Release the OK button and press the up arrow to scroll to NEW MAINTENANCE KIT. 4. Press OK to reset the maintenance-kit counter.
Was this a new maintenance kit?
If it was new, try putting the old one back in, if it reports the same
message, the pivot plate will more than likely need replacing.
If it displays the original message i.e, replace maintenance kit,
then the fault is with the new maintenance kit.
Do check you have been sent the correct maintenance kit for your machine,
part number should be 108R00675 for standard and 108R00676 for the
extended Phaser 8560 printer and Phaser 8560MFP kit.
If it is the original maintenance kit and the error just appeared,
as I am assuming you will have already tried re-seating it, the
problem is likely to be the pivot plate again.
Hope this helps.
To ensure optimum print quality, the printer will prompt you to perform printer maintenance every 150,000 pages. When the PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE message appears on the control panel, you will need to purchase a printer maintenance kit and install the new parts. To check the number of pages the printer has printed, print a configuration page. To print a configuration page: 1 Press [Menu] until INFORMATION MENU appears. 2 Press [Item] until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears. 3 Press [Select] to print the configuration page. To order the printer maintenance kit, contact an HP authorized service or support provider. (See the telephone support flyer included with the printer.) The kit includes: • fuser assembly • transfer roller • feed rollers • necessary instructions For more information on installing the printer maintenance kit, see the instructions that accompany it.

The printer keeps track of how many pages you have printer and will notify you when you need to install a maintenance kit and perform a maintenance reset. You can order a kit here and there is a video on how to install and perform the reset. http://www.fastprinters.com/dell-fusers-maintenance-kits.asp#W5300
First of all make sure it is the right kit. The part numbers for teh 8550 and 2424 are very close, one ends in 675 the other in 657, so they have been known to be mixed up.
then here is the documentation..
The machine displays the Replace MaintenanceKit after the MaintenanceKit has been replaced.
There may two causes for this issue.
The machine does not recognize that the MaintenanceKit was removed. This would likely be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate.
The machine corrupts the CRUM on the new MaintenanceKit.This may be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate or IO Board.
This will require servicing:
The maintenance kit contains a maintenance roller that keeps the surface of the Imaging Drum clean and oiled. NOTE: Order a new maintenance kit when the Display Screen displays a message that the maintenance kit is low. Replace the kit when the Display Screen prompts you to replace the maintenance kit.
Both a Standard Maintenance Kit and an Extended Maintenance Kit are available for the Phaser 8550 and 8560; however, only a Standard Maintenance Kit is available for the Phaser 8500. An Extended Maintenance Kit will not be functional with the Phaser 8500.
WARNING: The printer's interior may be hot! Do not touch the hot surfaces.
Once you have the part: instructions:
Open the door on the right side of the printer.
Grasp the maintenance kit (labeled A) from the maintenance kit slot and pull the kit completely out of the printer.
Insert a new maintenance kit and push the kit completely into the maintenance kit slot. Follow the illustrated instructions included with the maintenance kit for full installation and disposal information.
Close the door.
This will be on the right side of the printer.
This will need to be replace every 10,000 sheets of paper.
