Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS510 36" TV
When i turn on my tv it goes on and off, but the sound is still on, it blinks for about 10 minutes, then the picture will stay on
The CRT is starting to go weak and it is borderline for the AKG circuits to allow it to display or not. This is a type of protection that is built in to protect the bias supply and high voltage supply to the CRT.
When the CRT, and the rest of the set is functioning properly, the AKG circuit biases the CRT electron guns to have the proper current and voltage for each colour drive to maintain stable colour ballance.
If the CRT emission is too low, there can sometimes be a condition where the high voltage will not regulate properly. The CRT works as part of the load for the reference current to determine the high voltage regulation control. If the high voltage goes too high, this will put the level out of safety specs according to the ISO standards.
On more rare occasions there may be a fault in the main power supply, secondary power supply from the horiz output stage, CRT bias circuits, or with the high voltage multiplier.
The set would have to be properly checked by an experienced tech who knows the set very well. He can follow through the service manual to perform the proper tests to determine the cause of the failure.
Considering the age of the set, and the cost to have it serviced, I would suggest to consider a new set.
