Put your optical cables into the amp and not the tv,also make sure the ps3 audio is set to bitstream.

Do you have to have an optical cord from receiver to tv..koss model ks3102..if not i have rca cords were do cords go.

HD broadcasts by TV stations are often broadcast in Dolby Digital. If your TV can output Dolby Digital or HD then you will need to have the TV connected to the receiver via either the optical in, or the coaxial in. If the receiver can get the Dolby signals via the Coaxial and the TV can send them via a Coaxial socket it should work. Don't forget to set your HD set to output Dolby signals. If the TV or Receiver can only send Dolby via the optical you will have to use that. Optical cables can be picked up cheap these days. I have seen them in pound shops!

Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable.

Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

Smart TV but reveiver does not have HD plug ins

I would input everything directly to the tv via hdmi, then take the optical audio output from the tv back to the receiver.

5.1 settings

Receiver just receives the audio data over optical digital cable and processes it. It is up to the DirectTV box what will send to receiver (if stereo or some Dolby Digital for example).
You can check the format (decoder, no. of channels, bitrate) of current audio signal after pressing Option button on remote and choosing Signal Info menu.

Got a Kenwood vr405 surround receiver, a Sanyo plasma TV, hd cable box and an insignia blu ray player. Both the cable box and the blu ray player are connected via hdmi to the TV and the TV is connected to...

If you would like to use high definition audio decoding, connect the HDMI from the blu ray player to the receiver. If that it not an option for you due to lack of equipment such as an additional HDMI cable to go from the receiver to the television for the video portion of the signal, then connect your optical cable again. After the optical cable is connected, make sure the Dolby Digital decoding is enabled on the receiver, and that the media you are playing also has a version of 5.1 surround sound. Then, enter the setup menu of the player (which I suspect this is actually where the problem might reside in your case) and make sure that Dolby Digital and DTS are not set to "downmix." Dolby Digital should be set to output Dolby Digital and so on and so forth...hope this helped.

I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to my Yamaha RX-V465.When I play a blueray disc the signal info shows PCM.Shouldn't it show Dolby Digital or True HD?

Your PS3 probably has a setting for what digital bitstream it produces. Check it out. Dolby Digital is probably what you want.

I own a Yamaha RX-v365 and i cant figure out how to connect my PS3 to the surround sound. For some reason the HDMI cables wont work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As above :
Connect PS3 via HDMI to DTV/IN, Connect HDMI from out to TV's HDMI/IN. Connect TV's Optical out to amps DTV/Optical in.

2X HDMI cables and one Optical are required.

I have the V363 but yours looks the same.

Enjoy great sound :)

OH: choose the DTV input then stereo and then dolby etc .. cheers

Hookup diagram for Yamaha avr-863 receiver

It's the other way around.

Hook up the Cable box to the Amp; and the blu-ray to the amp, then connect amp to LCD.

you want to use the best available options for audio:
HDMI > Digital Optical > Digital Coax > standard RCA

And the similar for video:
HDMI > Component > SVideo > RCA cables

I would connect Blu-Ray via HDMI to Amp, and Cable box via HDMI to Amp. If your cable box does NOT support HDMI, but you have an HD package, ask your cable company for an upgraded box.

Problem hooking up my Yamaha RX-V461 to my PS3

When you connect the optical cable to the ps3 you must change the output to optical on the ps3. To do this, startup your ps3 then go to settings then audio output settings and change it to Digital Out (Optical).
