Old Dock New iPod (won't always charge)

I have the first version of the Bose dock and an iPod photo. When I seat the iPod in the dock it makes a buzzing or static noise in the speakers and, I figure, doesn't connect enough to charge the iPod. I wiggle it, jiggle it, reseat it...but it still buzzes and won't charge. Sometimes I get lucky and it will make the connection, but most often not...so I end up draining the iPod of power as my music plays. I contacted Bose and they sent me new plastic base adapters, which turned out to be the exact ones the dock came with, so it didn't solve the problem at all. Then they suggested I send the dock in for repair...which would cost a small fortune (I might as well buy one one of the new docks). Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a fix? Thanks for your input!

When I put on the iPod on the Bose Docking Station there is a annoying hiss that comes out of the speaker even when the iPod is not playing. The sound quality too goes down but sometimes when I move around the iPod it makes the right connection and the hissing sound disappears.

I have a similiar problem with my new iPod Nano, when docked in the Bose SoundDock I. It won't charge while in the dock. It even states that "Charging is not supported with this accessory", when I first plug the nano into the dock. What's that all about? That was one of the reasons for buying the dock, ....... for the charging convenience as well as the sound. I would like to take the Soundock back to the store but we threw out the box right at Christmas. I am not sure if the Future Shop retailer will take it back.

I bought the Bose docking station and ipod nano (4th gen) together and they worked fine until yesterday when the dock stopped charging the ipod. I can still play and it sounds fine but won't charge. It won't charge my son's ipod classic either and it had no problems with it before. Where do I go for help with this?

Apple have changed the way that the newest generation of ipods recharge, so they can still play the music but no longer recharge. i asked for an ipod touch for christmas, and found out about this problem when my friends came over before christmas and their new ipods would not charge, but still played. i plan to contact the place where the dock was sold to me, and if that doesn't work, then i will contact apple to see what they can do because my dock works in perfect condition with my old ipod nano, it is less than 2 years old.

Ipod classic 80GB makes a horrible popping noise with sounddock II

Sounds like there might be a loose connection between your iPod and the dock. Firstly make sure there is no dust or grit inside the female 30 pin of the iPod. Also make sure that there is no grit or dust around the male end on the dock. If there is grit or dust (or even if there isn't, some compressed air (you can buy this in a can) will help to clean out the connection. Also make sure that when you dock the iPod, it is seated on the dock properly. You should be able to see if it isn't seating properly. If this doesn't fix it and you are near an apple store, I would recommend taking the problem to them where they will be able to make sure that the iPod isn't causing the problem.

Speakers bose docking station make a noise

Have two Bose docking stations and the oldest (white) one have some problems now. When I put in one of my iPods in the docking, the speakers make some weird, creaky noises. Kind of a sound, when I'm looking for a channel on the radio. When I wiggle a little bit the connector from the docking station, it will play some music for a short time. Still it is not the same quality sound, it used to be. Also, some times the sound is too loud and when I touch ONE time the volume minus (-) button, you can hardly hear the music, it is too soft. Hope somebody can solve this problem.

Hi.. I have a bose wave ipod docking system.. the sound is amazing.. or was... until a few weeks back when i noticed that in order to hear my ipod... i had to tweak the ipod a little on the docking...

Are you using a voltage adapter of some kind to convert the ireland standard 220VAC to the USA standard 120VAC that this device uses? Over voltage can deplete an electronics life very quickly.
By the sound of the "thump-thump-thump" noise emitting from the device, you may have a broken ipod dock connector, or a short somewhere in the connector/wiring/device itself, or the ground has failed.
By the description of having to "tweak" your ipod to hear it, it sounds like you've slowly broken the dock connector. Check to see if it moves easily, or if you can hear anything loose.
This is more than likely fixable, but it's probably easier to replace the device than to fix a broken connector.

I just bought the ipod nano 6th generation and it will not charge in the Bose docking system....my old one charges with no problem.....is there a fix for this? The nano plays fine it just wont charge

If it is a different model iPod then it is likely the Bose dock does not support the newer model. Quite often changes such as from iPhone 3 to iPhone 4, Bose had to release a new dock. The speakers and music will still always work, but the support will be limited for charging. Unfortunately you will not be able to fix this, other than upgrade the dock, or go back to your old ipod.

My old ipod will play in my bose dock but my new one will not...It plays in other brands at the store.

You have an old version of the Bose dock. You can go to the Bose store and get an adapter for the new I pod. Some docks come with 2-3 different type of adapter to patch the generation gap.

When docking my itouch to bose docking station i have to play around with it to get it to work or else if get just a lot of static

One or both of the connectors may be damaged or there may a "dry joint" where connector is soldered onto the circuit board within the docking station. Alternatively, there may be some dirt or dust stuck between the connectors causing a poor connection. You can try sharply blowing into the connectors or try using a small brush such as an electric razor cleaning brush to remove any dirt/dust. If this doesn't resolve the issue you need to try connecting another iPod to the docking station and see if you still get the static noise problem. If not then the problem is probably confined to your iPod only.

Bose SoundDock burned out two of my iPods - a Nano and a classic.

um ur sounddock might require that u place the white docking piece that came with ur ipod to be place b4 the ipod is docked if not u may ruin the dock and the ipod usb port this is done because different generation ipods(nana and touch and ...) have different shapes so the entrance for docks may require to be eleveated or reduce in gradient basically if the dock isnt made for the specific ipod or u dont know just put the white piece in
