Ok so your sure the lid switch is good, it fills with water and then it doesnt do anything, If you have tried all the cycles, at various points, it doesnt make any noises, I would assume it is the timer. However the motor or ? could still be bad.

I would take off the cabinet and look at the motor wiring harness and make sure some wire hasnt burnt off somewhere, and I would also look in the control panel for a burnt wire or worse.

then price out a timer and a motor and decide if you want to take a gamble and replace the timer, or do you decide to replace the washer since it has had problems before, I recommend one minor repair, after that I recommend replacement, cost vs time and warranty.

My Kenmore washer drains after the rinse cycle but won't spin at the end of it's cycle. If I manually set it to the spin cycle, it spins just fine. Desperate!!! The lid switch was just replaced about

Possible there is problem with the timer controller unit. It seems that the stepper motor is not moving to the next cycle until you manually move it to the spin. You can use some contact cleaners on the switch and also carefully try to see if the timer moves within , replacement is a costly issue and must be debated

Just replace motor coupler a few days ago...now washer filled up, washed & got to rinse cycle then stopped. Turned dial back to wash cycle, won't work. Checked lid switch, not broken. Jumped outer...

since the coupler is new and lid switch was jumped i would be looking at the connections on the motor plug that you disconnected to replace coupler depending on your exact model there is the main plug the 2 wires on the capicator and a smaller plug. BUT FIRST recheck lid switch what must be jumped out is the connection leading up to control panel and NOT the part in the cabinet
to me a appliance tech w/30 years experience it sounds like a bad lid switch!

Replaced lid switch a year ago, and the heavy duty cycle works fine. However, the permanent press/delicate and normal cycles do not work (tub just keeps filling/emptying water). My research indicates that...

I agree, it is most likely a timer problem. Possibly "rust" build-up.

Kenmore washer 110.24642300 - the motor makes no sound. It will fill but that's it. No draining, spin or agitate. We replaced the lid switch about two months ago. Could it be a faulty lid switch?

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.24642300

The first thing to try is to try a different cycle.

If the washer works, the problem points to a bad timer.

Second, it is possible that you had a defective lid switch. I'd try to by-pass the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

Third, Try to set the timer to a spin cycle.

These washers use a reversing motor to run the drain and spin cycles.

If the lid switch is ok and the washer will drain and spin by starting in the spin cycle, the problem points to a timer.

Beyond that, the problem points to a motor connection area. See the troubleshooting guide and diagrams in the Whirlpool Service Manual.

Won't spin, makes clunking noise, drains fine

If it agitates fine , with normal noise , drains with lid closed , then the problem is probably the transmission .
