Question about Samsung Televison & Video

I purchased a Samsung 50"DLP plasma TV and a Denon theater surround aystem from Best Buy 15 months ago. About 2 weeks ago the picture starting going out but the sound would remain on. The screen has NOTHING on it when this happens, it just looks kinda gray. regardless of what remotes you use, TV, Cox, nothing comes up on the screen. whether you push input, menu or guide. nothing! The picture might come back on after a while then go out again. If I turn both the cable and TV off for awhile, aybe 30 mins to an hour the picture comes back and everything is fine or maybe 30 minutes to an hour then the picture goes out again. I have had 4 cable techs look at this in the last 10 days, they have replaced the DVR box and checked the signals and all connections, I have unplugged the system from the wall hoping it might reset, nothing! there are no other tv's in the house and this set has been hanging on the wall since day one. I called Best Buy and they offered to send a member of the Geek Squad out to look at it for $100, but stated they're not technicians but could make recommndations as to how proceed, is this even worth it? Or should I just find an authorized Samsung repair center?

This is the problem with tv main board ,I would suggest a Sumsung authorized reapir tech do the repair.

Certainly, I can help you. I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so he can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new KD board. heres the link.

You're better off finding an authorized repair center. They told you themselves that they aren't technicians and they've never had any formal training.

I purchased this hdtv new from Best Buy in February 2008. Last week a crackling sound began to develop and now the sound has gone completely, although the picture is fine.

T.V. comes on, there is sound but no picture.
T.V. is les than 18 months old. We use the T.V. when we come to our Condo in Daytona Beach for vacation, so it hasn't been used very much.

same problem for me ... check out this thread on AVSforums about it.

I have the same exact tv as you and had the same problem. I took it to a repair shop who told me I needed a new DMD chip and that it would be 850 to fix. I used the information in thread above to get the part number and bought the chip on ebay for under 200. Here is a link to the listing CHIP

People have had good success. I will be replacing mine tomorrow.

Worked a charm on my 50" Samsung DLP. Read thread carefully as there are 2 different version of the DMD chip you will need to replace. I ended up fixing mine for less than $165!

Insignia(samsung) 50" plasma Vertical red lines


I would take it back. I know from purchasing an Insignia LCD from them a while back, the TV just died after about 4 or 5 months. They ended up offering me another TV or with store credit. I took the store credit and chose another TV. I also did not have a warranty. I was told since it was Insignia (which is a Best Buy house brand) that replacing it was not a problem. Good luck.

Best Way ti connect a Denon AVR-1602 Surround Sound system with a Bell Express View Satlite reciever and Plasma TV


lets see, 3100 has no digital out, so you need analog inputs for the audio. Best picture with the 3100, use S-video. Digital input for the DVD sound and S-video in for picture. OOPS....does your TV have a S-Video input ?. If not then you have to use the RCA standard video type connector, as this particular denon doesnt do up or down conversion to or from S-video to old style RCA.

PS.....the HD bell wont do you any good with this receiver nbecause it doesnt have component video inputs. Enjoy Bells' superior picture with regular TV . Its way better than cable. Rob

NO VIDEO


I have a Samsung 50" plasma, that has been blacking out over the last 6 months. A 9/2005 set. Now its practically unwatchable as it happens 3 times in an hour. Its not heat related - I have a high volume 9" fan activated on TV power on. Turning the set offf/on usually makes it come back for a now short while. Considering to go put it in the back of my pickup and park it in front of Best Buy and discourage Samsung purchases. This is the 2nd Samsung TV I've purchased (the other a 32" tube) I gave to my folks a couple years ago and its gone bad as well. Samsung product may look good, but their video engineers are not.

Another Zenith TV Pops and bites the dust!


I can just imagine how you feel. Sorry. Our TV, same make and model, just did the same thing today 9/19. Luckily we purchased an extended warranty but however are waiting two weeks for them to show up and who knows what is wrong and how long it will take to fix it?
