BenQ PB6100 Multimedia Projector

High Def Sattelite and BenQ Pb6100

By Peter1 - usenet poster

I have a BenQ PB6100 video projector that we use in out home Theatre room.
We have digital cable that is connected to the projector via S-video.  How
much improvement in Video quality would I get if we went to High Definition
satellite?  The PB6100 has component video jack but no DVI port.  Any advice
/ suggestions / tips / comments?

programming.

My guide was a little slow at first, but a firmware DL fixed the prob.
AND if you can tell the dif between the pictures then you must have been
called ol eagle eye in school
My dish pic is spectacular but it beats the  direct  tv in the most
important area... ITS THERE
During the last vestige of hurricane Ivan, with a deep overcast and 40 mph
winds my picture never wavered.
People who lost their cable were calling me and asking me what was going on
And you can keep your tivo anything, with it reporting your viewing habits
back to the marketing wonks at the corporate offices
While putting a new samsung in for my friend I saw pixelization not once but
TWICE, on a clear blue day
His direct is always going off

Rogers has 2 boxes.

The older HDTV box has Composite, S-video, and Component outputs

The newer 3250 box has composite, S-video, Component, and DVI.

I'm not sure if the DVI output is functional on the 3250 ... I don't have a
DVI cable to try it out.

1 Tip - wait for the Motorola DSR530 dual HD tuner/Digital Video
Recorder. It will out around Xmas or soon afterwards - and SC will
have a real intro deal

I completely agree, Dish isn't even in the same league and DTV, in
picture and sound quality
and yet another step down when you get into DVR (DirecTiVo) side of
things...

Rogers HDTV eh?  What type of video connections does you digital cable box
have?  composite? S-video? Component?  DVI?  My projector has composite,
S-Video, and S-VGA jacks (25' S-VGA cable then ran through ceiling down wall
to entertainment centre.)  I made an adapter that converts S-VGA to
component video.

I'm in Toronto and I'm using Rogers Cable HDTV. It's OK but expensive. You
might want to try out HDTV with digital cable first... usually with Digital
cable you don't need to purchase the receiver box which will save you ~
600.00.

You can also buy a grey market US dish, and buy a hacked card. It's not
really legal, but since we're in Canada, there's not much the Americans can
do about it. The only problem is that the cards get reset once in a while
and you'll need to purchase a new card.

As for StarChoice vs. ExpressVu, I believe StarChoice has better packages.

Canada?  Should I buy one on the internet?  Bell ExpressVu? Star Choice?

You will see a massive improvement in picture quality. Your project is has
a native resolution of 800x600, but that is enough for basic HDTV. The
projector has the ability to convert 1080i signals to it's native output
resolution.

To get the best quality picture, you'll need to connect your projector to
the HDTV box via a component connection. Or, possibly you can also use a
DVI to VGA converter.

I just switched from Dish to DirecTV. Not sure what you did wrong, but
DirecTV blows Dish into the weeds. DirecTivo is 100 times better than the
Dish PVR (Dish not not offer Tivo) and DirecTV channels have far less mpeg
compression for a far better picture quality. Plus when you hit the 'guide'
button, the guide is there. With Dish you have to wait 2-3 minutes for it to
download, then another 2-3 minutes every time you want to look ahead a few
hours. DirecTV was also about $10 a month cheaper with the same programming.

Afraid I dont know much about your projector, but I'm going to assume its at
least 480p.
I have the dish hd box without the pvr functions
Igot it for 200$, and a service commitment of a year
It has DVI and componet. I use componet
When I first got it it was kind of buggy but several firmware downloads have
improved it somewhat
My two favorite features are that it "upconverts EVERYTHING to 1080i, its
native output.
This wont give you any real resolution increase but the picture is smooth
and filmlike. My cheap panny 47inch eats it up.
Also the "page up" on the remote shifts through streach, two zoom modes,
full, just, grey bar (for 4:3) black bar (4:3)and normal. This allows me to
adjust the aspect of hd content
Theres also an optical digital out, you get a great digital sound from
everything, not to mention sirius radio
This receiver also picks up local stations, with a twenty dollar radio shack
uhf fifty miles from Birmingham I pick up three stations  consistently and
several more intermitently.
I love it basically, right now I get the hd pack, local stations, and the 39
dollar package  and it runs at 63 bucks. They are trying to be able to offer
network hi-def feeds but this is up in the air.
If you can afford it (I cant) the hi-def pvr is highly reccomended, allows
you to tivo hi-def material.
900 bucks
Not to be partisan but I installed my friends direct tv and it  SUCKS
Like A HOOVER
