Question about HP Pavilion zd7188cl PC Notebook

1 Answer

HP zd7188cl shuts off whenever it feels like - sometimes it restarts to shut off later

Last winter, I had 1 gb ram replace one 250 mb ram. I have a total of 1.25 gb. This did help the continual freezing problem I had, but that's when we noticed more auto shut off. I was advised to raise the computer for more air-flow underneath and clean or remove dust from within the computer. I did that. I defrag & disc cleaned. My computer doesn't feel as hot anymore - the fans work fine - I did remove a lot of lint & dust. I use PrintShop quite often, which has it's own problems, so I uninstalled and reinstalled that program, but haven't really used it since then. Recently, I've used my dial-up internet and Microsoft Word for a large writing project I'm doing. I'll go several hours or nearly a day, but it will shut down eventually. I've had more problems with my computer ever since I one time tried to update to Explorer 7. I had to do system restore and reinstall several programs to get it back to normal, but it seemed to have left residual problems. I've run out of ideas. Can you help me?

Thanks for trying. I had everything set for "never" to shut down automatically. I just want to mention - that it turns off without warning. It starts up as if nothing ever happened.

Is there a way the memory in a toshiba satellite 1005-s157 be increased to more than 512MB?

Yes you can, at least to 1 Gb maybe possibly to 2 Gb.
There will be two memory slots in your laptop. To increase the RAM to 1 Gb install another 512 Mb RAM module in the empty 2nd memory slot. Make sure you use the same make and speed RAM as the one that is installed.
If you have two 256 Mb RAM modules installed in your laptop then you need to replace the two 256 Mb RAM modules with two 512 Mb RAM modules to get a total of 1 Gb RAM.

RAM chip sets

It is OK to mix chip (SODIMM) capacities in the 2 slots in your notebook.

The best system performance will be when you have 2 x 512MB but for now if you install 1 x 512MB, you could even leave the old chip in the other slot, it'll be fine.

Two 512 MB ram with two 1GB, system shuts down by itself

The fan might not be going on and off, rather might be spinning fast and slow. The possible issue might be the heat produced.Try placing the laptop on a high stand with more space for the heat vents. Or buya good cooling pad. If the issue persists, please report back.

    Samsung v25 shutdown

    hi dear

Do not complete the following procedure unless you are very familiar with internal computer hardware removal and installation. The hardware components in a computer are very sensitive to static electricity. For information about the correct handling of computer components, contact your computer manufacturer. 1. Shut down your computer, and then remove all the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) devices. 2. Restart your computer. • If Windows starts successfully, shut down your computer, and then reinstall the PCI devices one at a time. Start Windows after the installation of each device. When you install a device that causes the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section, remove that device, and then continue to install the other PCI devices. • If Windows does not start successfully, remove one or more of the memory modules that are installed in your computer. Leave sufficient RAM for your computer to start and run Windows XP.

Note Windows XP requires 128 megabytes (MB) RAM. The minimum is 64 MB and the maximum is 4 gigabytes (GB).

For example, if two 256-MB memory modules are installed in your computer, remove one of the memory modules. If Windows starts successfully, shut down the computer, and then reinstall the RAM modules one at a time. Start Windows after the installation of each RAM module. When you install a module that causes the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section, remove that module, and then continue to install the other RAM modules. 3. Determine if the PCI devices in your computer are compatible with Windows XP. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) Web site:

HP pavilion laptop shuts down abruptly

It sounds like something is overheating to me. Also, it could be a bad motherboard. Try putting your laptop on a hard surface. I carnt stress this enough. Also, you can try cleaning out the laptops cooling vents with some compressed air (you can get it at pcworld). At the end of the day and it still wont work, send it in for repair. Good luck
