FE 20 turn off flash

Look for the flash button (looks like a lightning bolt) to cycle through the flash options. Flash options can be limited in AUTO Shoot mode.
The manual describes how to use the Flash on page 19 of the manual.
You can download the manual here http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/FE-360_X-875_C-570_FE-20_X-15_C-25_Instruction_Manual_EN.pdf

How do i stop the flash popping up on a canon eos 350d even when taking a photo outside in bright light...I am using the auto setting

Try using the "no flash" setting. It is still completely auto, it just won't fire a flash. It is the setting that looks like boxy "no sign" over a lighting blot on the settings dial, it is also the last setting.

Hope this helps!

best way to find out is look in your owners manual it will tell you. 5000 miles is a newer standerd now days. if it was even newer it would be even longer more like 7500 to 10,000. but your is a little older so im going to go with 5000. but check your book. it also has alot of important info .

The flash does not work even if the flash setting is SET to FILL ( the flash will work every time the camera is in used) I already tried to reset the settings to default but still the flash wont...

Does the camera indicate that the flash is turned on? In most olympus cameras I have seen there is a lightning blot at the lower left corner of the screen. Verify that it is indeed there and let me know.

My fe 230 battery doesn't last long

Unfortunately, all digital cameras with zoom and flash eat up batteries pretty fast. The best thing you can do is buy backup batteries, and have them when you have some serious shooting to do. Also, rechargeable batteries don't last forever, and start losing energy after awhile. You can order batteries at a great price by shopping on ebay. Good luck!

Fe-310, only used a few times, kept protected, one

Short answer - yes.
Manufacturers have become very good at making products that are reliable for exactly 1 year.
Usually it's small components that have a deffinate shelf life.
I would first check that you are using the correct battery for it. Even if it looks like it takes standard AA's - they often will only work for original spec rechargable blocks.
If this does not solve it - write a letter to Olympus saying how dissapointed you are with their product.
They may offer you a good deal on a repair hopefully.
Unfortunately Sony and HP are even worse - HP and lexmark printers now stop working after a period of time - telling you to buy more ink - even though you still have plenty.

Olympus FE-140 ok except that flash does not work

Make sure you try and reset the camera to the factory default settings. There may be a setting that you are using that has disabled the flash functionality. To reset the camera - have the camera in shooting mode - press the menu button - left arrow to reset and press ok - you will see reset yes or no - highlight yes and press ok - camera will be back in factory settings - see if flash is able to work now.
