A simple solution is a USB Wireless Card... Linksys is my Fav...
If you have a wireless card in there you would see a indicator light on the top of the laptop...kinda like the HD light or power light. If it is on... it will be lit.
I would try pulling down a current install file from Sony's website along with a Diagnostic CD. But from what your describing it sounds like the internal wireless card is not working - contact your manu for warranty, and/or take it to a local pc shop and see if they can replace it.
Hi, Have you installed the driver for your wireless card since you re-formatted?
Right click on my computer and go to properties, select device manager. all of your hardware will be listed there. are there any yellow question marks? these are devices that need drivers.
Your wifi card will probably be called 'network adapter'. go to the sony vaio website and download the right driver for your wifi card
