Lexmark X5495 can't scan, Downloading application list

I recently bought Lexmark X5495 all in one printer, Message shows up on lcd:Downloading Application List then says Cannot Retrieve. Ive ticked it as an exception in the firewall settings, that hasn't helped, reinstalled the driver, that hasn't helped. I can still print, receive faxes etc. The problem comes in when I try to scan, and this is the ONLY reason I bought the machine. Lexmark South Africa, says they've never encountered the problem before... what now?

    I have the Lexmark 5495 all-in-one and when I try to scan it says downloading application list. Then after a couple of minutes it says cannot retrieve application list. My firewall is off.

I had the same problem with my 4550 model. Lexmark now has two patches available (search their support database for "Cannot Retrieve Application List". The patches appear to be a batch file that replaces a file in the install directory. Once I applied both patches (document says you may only need the first) I was able to get it to work if I turned "off" the firewall. When the firewall is turned back on then "Cannot Retrieve...". Before applying the patches, turning off the firewall did not help.

Now that it works it's very cool. I select the system on the network, it shows me the application, I press color or BW, walk over to the computer and the application is open with the scanned image. Cool, yes - getting it to work was a major task of continuously searching the net for help.

If you Turn off the firewall at all( just to test), the scanner still not working? I had the same problem(Cannot retrieve list) Turn off firewall and, voila, it works very well. Now I have to find out which port/program in the exception list should be supplied.

If your pc tels you its downloading application, have a look a your printer drivers, your usb cable connecting your pc to printer and or the data cable inside the scanner might have gone faulty

You can try out these two options one by one to fix it up:

1 Unplug the printer.
2. Uninstall the drivers.
3. Reboot the machine.
4. Go to the lexmark site and download the drivers.
5. Install the new drivers.

B)You will get the "CANNOT RETRIEVE APPLICATION LIST" if your pc blocks the communication from the printer. This can be configured in your personal firewall. This can be Windows Firewall (found in Control Panel, Security Center), Symantec Client Firewall or similar. Depending on the configuration of this firewall you might or might not get pop-up messages from the firewall during installation. These pop-ups will allow you to permanently allow for this incoming communication. But your firewall might be set not to let you decide anything which will typically mean that the calls will be blocked out. This will often be the case if you have a company laptop configured by the company IT dept. You might then have to ask an admin to add exceptions the applications used by Lexmark as the configuration might not be open for you to change.

Impact s305 printer won't scan. it's stuck on "downloading application list"

Try using the Lexmark Printer Home when scanning. If you have a PC, to access it click on Start > All Programs > Lexmark > Printer Home. You can scan to a .jpeg, PDF or .doc.

If you're scanning from the control panel of your printer and you're getting an error message, "Cannot Retrieve Application List", most probably your firewall is blocking your printer from downloading the applications. You might want to add the Lexmark files in the exception of your firewall. Click on the link on how to add exceptions to your firewall.

My new Lexmark X5650 doesn't scan to computer. Each time I try it shows the message "Downloading Application List." The it shows "Application Acrobat Reader." After a while it goes to sleep, but doesn't...

I had my phone turn off,but can still use my computer on line,and now my three in one printer is saying downloading application and then it say can not retrive.

Device monitor application problem

Make sure that the Lexmark Imaging Studio program is running. This was installed when you set up your printer.
If you see the multi-colored icon in your task bar for Lexmark Imaging Studio then try pressing the scan mode button twice. You should be able to scan then.
