Question about Olympus Digital Cameras

5 Answers

When i turn on the Stylus 500, the flash icon blinks continuously. I put in a freshly charged battery, but that doesn't stop the flashing. It takes non-flash pictures, but the flash won't fire when called for. Don't know how to continue.

There is no "green button" on the back of the Stylus 500. The rest of the "solution" does not address the problem of the flash icon always flashing and therefore making using the flash impossible.

Any possible other solutions? Does the cost of repair plus shipping warrant repairing or should I just buy a new camera?

Dear customer,
Check that batteries are fresh. Check that camera hasn't been set for no-flash mode.
Give the flash time to charge before pressing shutter.
Check that your digital camera is not in playback or review mode. Make sure the memory card is in the camera and that the card is properly formatted.
The Memory Card may be full. Download the images to the computer or delete some to make way for new photos.
Check the charge on the batteries. Replace if necessary.

Thanks for using fixya.. good luck..

If it keeps flashing continuously and wont stop even after few minutes, then that would indicate a hardware issue with the flash.

IS the camera under warranty?

If not I can recommend

  • With the camera shutter open, press the green button on the back of the camera.
  • Locate the flash button, marked with a lightning bolt symbol, next to the big silver OK button.

    • Press the flash button to change between flash modes.

  • The flash setting is displayed on the control panel (see Figure IV).
  • If no flash icon appears, the flash is set to automatically fire as needed.

    • An eye symbol signifies the red-eye reduction flash.
    • A crossed-out lightning bolt icon signifies that the flash will not fire even if light is low.
    • A lightning bolt icon signifies the flash will fire regardless of lighting conditions.
    • A lightning bolt icon with the word SLOW indicates the slow shutter synchronization flash, for taking photographs of night views.
    • An eye symbol, lightning bolt icon, and the word SLOW all together are used for taking photographs of people at night.

Orange light flashes on when turn on Olympus c-50 zoom camera and orange and green lights in upper left corner blink when try to take pictures. Won't take any pictures

The flashing Orange light means the charge is flashing.
The flashing Green light means the focus and exposure are not correct.

Have you recently replaced the batteries? Or are you using rechargeable batteries? Lack of enough "Juice" could allow for the flash to not charge up (Orange) therefore not allowing the camera to get the correct exposure (Green). I would try new fresh batteries or a new battery pack. If that doesn't fix the issue it must be a bad circuitry in the body that is shorting not letting the flash charge.

Can't take picture with flash...icon just blinks!

A blinking flash icon usually means the flash is trying to charge but the battery level is too low to power it up.

    Wont take pictures with flash

The problem is in the battery holder of the CR1220 battery.

-Take out the CR1220 battery (the little round one).

-When you replace it, put a bit of aluminum foil against the back, between the battery and the plastic holder, to make it a nice tight fit. One layer won't do it, but don't put in half the roll.

    -Put it back in. Done

Using a fresh battery & clean it all with alcohol = good idea as well. Worked for me.

    Flash Not working

Sounds like the flash unit is not charging up, or the charge sense circuit is defective. Could be something as simple as a loose solder connection on the PCB. No simple way of fixing it without taking the camera appart and poking around with a DMM or oscilloscope.

    Flash will not work properly

    Hi,
It may be the batteries, If using rechargeables one may be weak. try new batteries and check the battery contacts are all clean use a pencil eraser or a cotton bud (Qtip) moistened (not wet) with isopropyl alcohol (tape/stylus cleaning fluid)
If that dose'nt help Im sorry to say the flash is probably faulty as it would appear to be trying to charge but not reaching a full charge

Weird problem. Camedia d-520 doesn't turn on. Blinks and Beeps.

I'm having the same problem with mine. Happens on rechargeables or brand new standard batteries as well. Very frustrating. I can't take more than 2 videos in a row without the dreaded orange/green lights flashing (low battery warning). Leaving it for 10-20 minutes and it works again, with the battery charge showing full.
