Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)

1 Answer

Modem keep rebooting.

I have this problem. When you restart the modem, you'll expect to see a green light under the Power. However, mine does different. A red light will appear and a ticking sound will be heard. It will keep ticking until it turns green and then it starts blinking. When it stabilised, it will restart again after a few seconds. Before this problem, I cannot get connected to the internet. It shows a red light under the "internet." Please help. Thanks.

It sounds like you have a bad modem. Have you tried to plug the device into a different power outlet? This will rule out that it's a possible power issue in the outlet.

If no change by trying a different outlet I would replace modem.

Hope this helps.

How do i get green light in apple modem

Hi,
Since we have no idea what modem you have, it's hard to say, but generally, a hard reset on a cable modem does NOT require it be re-provisioned, Comcast will simply repush the bootfile to it the next time it connects.
I'm not sure what you mean about the Airport Utility not detecting the Airport Extreme but it is showing up in the utility. If it's listed, it must have been detected...
The light flashing amber in the front means several different things depending on exact pattern, see the Apple site for exact details. Most common, no Internet connection because the AEX can't get a DHCP lease on its WAN connection. Have you properly reset your cable modem? You don't say what it is, so it's hard to be precise here. If a regular cable modem simply remove the power cable for a few seconds and let it reboot. If an EMTA with phone jacks press and hold the Reset button until the modem reboots.
The other common cause is the AEX has detected it needs a firmware upgrade. In this situtation, the router will work, but you should update the firmware using the Airport Utility.

How to Reboot or Reset a Cable or DSL Modem Properly

  1. Turn off the computer and all other devices connected to the modem before attempting to perform a reboot or reset of the modem.
  2. Remove the power plug in the back of the modem. Check your modem for a battery pack. The battery must be removed in order to fully power down the modem.
  3. Keep the power off for at least one minute and then return the power plug to the back of the modem and wait for all the lights on the front of the modem to come back on and stop flashing.
  4. If you have a router, plug it back in and wait for the lights to come on first. Next, turn on your computer. After this, your connection should be back and you can reach the Internet.
To completely reset the device back to its factory settings, follow this step:
  1. Look at the back of the modem. There should be a tiny button or hole in the back of the modem that will be labeled reset. Press this button in for a minimum of 10 seconds using a small pin or a paperclip to reset the modem. This will reset the modem to factory defaults. You will need to reset options just as if it was a brand new modem being installed.

Power Problem with 2Wire 2701HG-B

Sounds like a startup self test. All wireless devices go through a power on self test. Does it connect? You can connect to it and go online? I rarely turn mine off, only in a electrical storm.

D-Link Router, Model DI-524 is not able to register IP address. My cable company did maintenance yesterday and this morning unable to link to internet with Router hooked up to modem. Apparently no good...

Sometimes when ISP's do maintenance the DHCP servers re-assign new IP numbers. When you have symptoms like yours it's because the modem, router, and computer are working off previously assigned old IP numbers that may have then been re-assigned to other customers modems after the maintenance. Same with the router. Rebooting your equipment causes them to pull new IP numbers and things start working again.

So, usually a reboot will fix it. Turn off the computer(s). Turn off or unplug the power cables from both the modem and the router. Keep them off for 3 or 4 minutes. Leave the data cables connected. Plug the power to the modem back in FIRST. Give it a few minutes to come up. Any lights should be green. If the lights don't come up green on the modem you'll need to call the cable company.

Second, plug in the router and let it come up. Again, lights should be green. Lastly, turn on the computer.

That should do it. If not, please post back. There are other things to try.

Flashing green means its trying to contact the modem. So, there is some problem with modem-router connection or with the modem.

Disconnect the modem from the router and connect the modem alonely to the desktop and check.

If you are unable to go online, restart the modem/reset the modem.

After that, connect the modem to the router, then reset the router (In the back side, U can see a reset button. Hold the button upto 10-15 seconds, lights will go off and it will vary). then, power off the router and after 10 sec, make it on.

Then it will go to default settings. Now, try to go online.

If not, Call Belkin 1800 2BELKIN. Life time Free phone support 24*7.

a lot of times its the sequence of the reboot for each device. what happens is, the modem connects to a particular device (computer, router, etc.) and then establishes that connection as a relationship. if you try to plug the ethernet cable into a different device without rebooting the modem, it will never connect. that being said........make all of your connections modem ethernet to router input, then router output to computer ethernet input. then, reboot the modem (with no power plugged into the netgear...its next, just no power yet). once the ready or cable light goes solid and the modem is up, plug the power supply into the router and let it do its thing, then you should see the "i" with a swoosh under it light up, it will be orange for a bit until it connects to the modem, finally turning green. from the router to the computer ethernet.......click your start button on your desktop, click the "run" near the control panel button....a little window pops up down by the start button....type the letters cmd (short for command) and then hit ok button...........black screen for dos pops up with a blinking curser.......type ipconfig then hit enter. the first stages of numbers for the default gateways etc should read close to this 192.168.0.1 (this is the ip of the router). if you see these numbers, you should be able to surf the web. you must do the reboots in the sequence as stated above.. give each interval a minute to do its thing. some newer operating systems need you to physically acknowledge the "new network detected" and select home away office...... so once the reboots and the ipconfig stuff is done but you still cant surf, restart the computer, hopefully when it comes back on it will detect the new network.

the ds light is for downstream which is your digital signal simply put...... if the light is not going solid to denote being :"online" there maybe signal related issues. rain will mess up the cable signals as the service is exposed to elements etc.....here is a trick i do with a modem that doesnt want to lock on to good signal.....reboot the damn thing...........give it a minute or two.. if the online light doesnt sync up solid....unscrew the cable connector on the back of the modem while it is powered up and wait 15 seconds////then screw it back on (needs to be hand tight, its like a water hose, if its loose you get signal loss) and give it 10 minutes......if it still doesnt lock up and go solid indicating online then call your cable company, you should not get charged for their service not working correctly..........it then would be something only a tech could fix. but if it does lock up and go solid ....hook up your router , power it up and give it a minute to sense the modem, restart the computer and you should be good to go...

If you have the router connected to a cable modem, unplug the cable modem, then unplug the router. let them sit unplugged for about thirty seconds. Then plug in the cable modem and let it boot completely up. Then plug in the router and let it reboot completely. You should see a green light under the "Internet". Then reboot the computer and see if it comes up. If it does not come up at this point, you may have another issue.
