Hi,if you have video and no sound you have hooked up the dvd with component cables but you still need phono cables for sound, run these from the dvd audio output to tv audio in,if you have a amp for sound come from dvd out to dvd in on your amp.

hope this helps.

I was hooking up my sisters surround reciever for her and used an optical cable to the reciever from the TV. Her TV gets signal from the cable box via coax and uses HDMI from DVD player. I am stumped that...

srry but the tv is not capable of sending hdmi audio through its outputs the dvd player audio must be run through rca red and white or black if you have digital audio out to the back of the receiver on its own channel

I am trying to setup my receiver with my TV and Comcast cable box using HDMI cables (TV-OUT and HDMI-1) but for some reason I don't get any sound from non-HD channels. Am I missing something?? I've read...

I'm thinking there might be a setting in the cable box that may be sending the wrong bit rate for PCM 2-channel audio but usually the receiver decodes that stuff fine. Just the same, I'd give Comcast a call.

I run the video from my cable box directly to the TV (HDMI) and the coaxial digital audio to my receiver so each one can do what it does best with the best possible un-modified source data.

No sound from rear speakers with TV and DVD player

You also have to connect a SPDIF coax or optical from both the DVD player and from the STBox into the digital inputs on the rear of the receiver. And select them with the remote control.

No sound from tv. I have sound from tuner, soud from dvd player, sound from xbox game but no sound from tv.

How's your TV sound coming into the receiver? I recommend you get it from wherever it enters your room first - usually the cable box. Run the digital audio output of the Cable Box to one of the digital audio inputs on the receiver and assign it to TV.

How to Hook up HDMI from Comcast Motarola Cable Box

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

Hooking it up

To get the dvd working hook up to amp with a optical or coax lead to your amp digital in,set out put on dvd to give 5.1 sound, next put a phono cable from cable box to tv input on amp or sat input, now put phono cables from tv audio out to tv or other free input on amp.Set sound to prologic2 and you should have surround sound for all.

Receiver won't put out sound to LCD Sharp aquos

I have the same problem with my Sharp Lcd and Onkyo 804. I believe one problem is that the TV can not accept dolby digital or dts digital audio signals through HDMI. It will play sound if it receives a PCM signal through HDMI. You can try switching the type of signal on the cable box settings and on the dvd player. I switched to PCM and got sound through the TV and the receiver. The problem is that PCM is usually only a 2 channel signal and Dolby 5.1 will sound better through the surround sound theater system. I have not found an absolute solution to this yet, but I am willing to not get sound through the lousy TV speakers in order to get top notch sound through the Onkyo.
