Gateway 42" plasma TV; model #P420142V5. No picture; green power light comes on, relay clicks for power-up, then clicks again. Picture never appears. Bad power module, picture module, etc? Thanks, Alex alex.jelepis@grubb-ellis.com

    Thank you.

Still reviewing solutions for my Gateway 42" Plasma TV; power clicks "on" then "off" again quickly; no video/audio.

Main power board and "bulb" were suggestions.

    Thanks.

May be it just some bad fuses on the power board. Look for burnt ceramic fuses and see if you can find any. Also look for bad solder joints or burnt capacitors. IF none of these work then its time to get a multimeter and check the voltages across various components on the powerboard and comparing them with the values in the service manual suggested by Darklord.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

Sir,

Shop Mode is an automatic picture setting intended for retailers todemonstrate functions to customers. Shop Mode returns the picturesetting to Dynamic Mode within thirty minutes, thereby saving theretailer from having to manually reset the TV.
If you have a 2007 Samsung TV (HPT series, FPT series, LNTseries, HLT series, or TXT series) and your picture setting keepsreturning to the Dynamic mode, it probably means that your TV is set toShop Mode.
To check if your TV is in Shop Mode, press Info on your remote. If the picture mode says "Shop Mode", do the following:

  • Press either the Up Volume or Down Volume control on the TV. The Volume bar will be displayed.
  • Press and hold Menu on the TV until "Dynamic Mode" is displayed (about 7 seconds).
  • Press Info on your remote and confirm picture mode says "Picture Mode: Dynamic".
Shop mode can be enabled/disabled from the Setup Plug & Play menu and also from the service menu.

Thanks
Good luck

It depends where the line is centered most, to the right or left of the center, there are buffer boards that control the vertical video, on the bottom part of the unit if you take the back off and look at the bottom part of the set you will see these address boards, they are usually about 2 inches wide and could be labeled J or K, if the unit is High Definition then you could have these buffer boards on the top part of the unit also

Do you gate flash light blinking, if yes, how many times?

You should get light flashing a certain number of times, to diagnose the problem.
If the tv shut down immediately without returning the flashing code, then it is probably the power unit faulty (short overvoltage, burnt comp[onent etc.) causing the safety switch to turn off tv immediately.
The tv should be tested thoroughly to find out the fault.

2006 42" plasma has blank

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.
