Question about Bosch 24 in. SHU43 Built-in Dishwasher

Dishwasher was leaking; now gets "stuck" 3 minutes after starting

Our Bosch dishwasher is 6-10 years old or maybe even as old as 15 yrs(was in the house when we bought it 4 yrs ago). Over the past year, it has occ. leaked water from the bottom or sometimes has gotten stuck in the drying cycle. Over the last week, it was leaking huge amounts of water everytime we used it. Now it gets stuck about 3 minutes after we start it -- it never really gets going, the water never gets going. We've checked the fine filter and rinsed out the spray arms and this did not help. We are wondering if it is worth fixing or if these problems are major and we should purchase a new dishwasher. Thanks!

You're describing a number of issues related to old age and maintenance. First, you've likely got a mechanical timer that is getting stuck. If the price of replacement is outside your budget for an old warhorse....

Second, in come cases, the timer takes care of water level...in most, however, there is a float or aeneroid level sensor. If it is a float...it may be clogged/jammed with detergent or debris. Located in the wash tub near the front. Clean it up. If it is an aeneroid, it has a tube going from the tub to the lower part which hooks into a 3 inch or so flat sided round item with two wires coming out. With the power off, test it by blowing and sucking on the tube. Blowing into it should open the switched leads ...sucking should hold a 'vacuum'. The pressure of water opens and closes this switch to determine water level.

3 yrs old model; worked fine then no lights on front panel

i hate to tell you this, but more than likely the circuit board behind that light has gone bad. It is a costly fix at several hundred dollars, and this isn't the first one i've heard that has done this...

Sounds like the control module is out -- cost about $100 (I am on my third). I got a "lifetime" warranty when buying my second one. If you are handy, you can replace it yourself. You can call Bosch to confirm this (I did). It mounts inside the door. Mine is a BOSCH 5316.

The draining problem may mean a clogged drain hose -- you have to check it all the way back to either the main drain or the garbage disposal (if you have one). This may be what forced off the impeller wheel.
