There is no instruction on how to put belts in a deck other than a parts break down of kind of where they go. A seasoned Technician would not need this but a Service Manual is always the best place to start. The Belt kit can be ordered from Marrs Communication and that will take the responsibility of sizing and then ordering the correct belts. The goo can be removed with denatued alcohol or Ammonia. I have always used alcohol and it is not a pleasant job for anyone.
You do not need any special instructions- look at the flywheels when they are running- they are hooked to the capstan shafts. The capstan shaft have to go in opposite directions for auto reverse so just threat the belt to that this happens- the unit should then work. You can get a Service manual from Hi Fi Engine maybe
I have just spent half a day trying to replace the drive belts in my sony twin deck unit , in the end it still didnt work as the the old rubber belt did some damage to the unit , anyway shops like **** smith or tandy stock the drive belts , take the front of the unit away from the main case there will be a plastic casing that surrounds the belts there are at least two belts, there should only be two small screws undo these and move the plastic unit forward on the plastic mounting brackets then you will see the metal wheel and the plastic wheel that you fit the belt around , its a bit fiddly but i can do it in my sleep now even though the motor died it was a good experience
