07 chevrolet trailblazer charging problem, When it is above idle charges fine as soon as it drops to idle shows complete discharge. Alt. replaced Battery new, all the obvious,blah,blah,blah. Took it to the dealer and they first replaced a crank sensor, yeah $85 an hour I hate bad guess work.

Hello! There are several possibilities...A Technical Service Bulletin written on July/08 shows the existence of the problem...Yes, they know about it and nothing more...It is TSB# 02-06-03-008D...

The meter in the dash is telling you "complete discharge", correct? When the idle drops are there any other signs...ie...Lights dim for instance...Or is the only indication of a problem the meter?...Lets eliminate the meter itself...There is a blocking diode installed in the instrument cluster that may be defective and actually the discharge is a lie...Using a voltmeter, Read the battery voltage with the engine off...Record reading...Start the engine and at idle take another reading...Voltage should be 1,8 to 2 volts higher...Increase RPM'S...Does the voltage rise or remain the same...Send readings...

The ground strap from the -battery terminal to the engine block/chassis may be corroded or loose causing a voltage drop at low RPM'S...Set scale of meter to X1 ohms...Engine off...Place one probe on the CENTER of the - battery terminal the other on the alternator mounting bracket...Must be zero ohms...Dead short...Send readings...

The Regulated Voltage Control Module is defective and needs to be replaced...Regulated voltage control is new for the Vortec 4.2L and Vortec 5.3L engines. It enhances fuel economy by reducing the load on the engine generated by the alternator...It is located on the center tunnel under the rear seat...Check the connector to see if any pins are bent and that it is properly seated...

2006 chevy trailblazer is not charging battery. battery and alt are new

Volts slowly drop to where what quits ,The vehicle stops running ? Is the charge indicator light lit on the instrument cluster /? are any lights lit on the instrument cluster ? The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the charge indicator and the BATTERY NOT CHARGING message is displayed in the message center when the following occurs:
The engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM/PCM requesting illumination.

Resolving battery dying out and discharge light dosen't come on?

Discharge light will actually only come on when the alternator is not putting out its normal 13.5 - 14.5 volts. Sounds to me your alternator is fine, your battery has some dead cells, and will go dead soon as you shut off your engine. Battery is not accepting the charge the alt. is giving it. New battery is needed.

Why doesn't it charge at idle?

It depends if the system is RVC/regulated voltage control. If so, there are about six modes of operation. One is, "fuel economy mode". In that mode, the targeted generator out-put is 13 volts and battery state of charge is greater than 80%. There are two other conditions.
Is there a battery discharge problem? Does the instrument cluster give charging system message or warning lamp?
Any charging system trouble codes? My info on your charging system is limited.

Charges ok, battery was replaced, connections cleaned and painted,ran fine for almost three months, then battery went flat again, checked altenator clleaned and greased connections, van ran fine for any...

I would check and clean any wire and connection between the alt and the battery and all grounds. Also check and see if charging voltage is the same at the battery post as it is at the lug on the alt.

Now change the sulfated batery for a new one.

Volt gage drops when not accelerating, replaced battery and altenator, its running worse now

What are the voltage readings?
Voltage may drop when idling and a larger voltage drop can be present when a large load (amp draw)is present on the alt.
A low charged battery is a large load.
Operating accessories is a large load.
A slow spinning (idling) alt will not put out it's max output.
This would be normal.

We like to see.....above 12.7V at idle....max 15V.......
.......and a min of 13.5V to a max of 15V at higher engine speed.
If you are with-in this.......don't worry about it.

Same problem motor shutting off when turning the AC at a low idle

I don't tjink your a/c is directly killing the engine. The electrical load it demands may be the issue. Hve your battery checked and your alternater outout. The alt. is supposed to ofset the loads imposed on the battery so as not to ppermit the battery to drop below what is needed to satisfy other accessories which are on orrunning. The charging voltage output of the alt is 13.6 - 14.2v @ 13,6v the alt is charging near its capacity. and 14.2 it is backing off. The lower the voltage the higher the amps. Constantly running @ or below 13.6 will shorten the lufe of the alt due to hear builup damage. Have your battery load tested w/engine off. Then ck the alternater output engine running @ 800 rpms. Alternaters, unlike the old generators, charge from the minute it starts turning, where a generatoter has to have speed to generate anything. Watch what the alternator does when you turn the a/c on and off. or simply watch the battery readinsgs when you turn each accessory on. like the headlights... Good Luck

Changed belt on 02 trailblazer now it won't start

Belt turns alternator, alternator charges battery.(no belt, no charging) Charge battery with a charger. Though it may start with a jump, the alt is designed to maintain the state of charge in the battery, not to fully charge it . Therefore jumping puts too much demand on alt and can damage it. or will shorten battery life considerably.
