Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I own a Tevion DVD recorder TDR5101. It will play commercial DVDs and I can record on the DVD which was supplied with the equipment. When I try to record on a Sony DVd R (RW) I get an error message on the DVD, or it says load and then nothing happens. I have to switch off the DVD and then switch on again in order to open the player and remove the disc. I am not sure it this is a fault with the machine, or whether I using the wrong sort of DVD. Hope you can help Many thanks Marjorie

Sounds like a dirty lens problem

It can be a dirty lens problem.
Normally any dvd machine read one kind of disk better than another, if lens are a bit dirty you can experience problems in reading some disk.
Try first using a DVD Lens Cleaner disk and solution. If this does not work try using DVD of a different kind.
If player for example has problems with DVD -R use DVD +R.
Remember also that rewritable DVDs can go bad after you use them a couple of time.
I don't think DVD RW are a good media for multiple use, as they risk to go bad after a couple of recordings.
In any case if you get problems with DVD -RW use +RW and so on.

Is there a way to hook up a second dvd player wo recording capabilities to record the movie to a blank cd while it's playing thru another dvd player

If you are trying to make a copy of a commercially produced DVD movie, give up. They are copy protected and the equipment sold to record and play DVDs will not allow you to make copies of these movies. Even if it would copy, there would be image distortion and possible sound distortion that would render the movie unwatchable. There are other ways to do it that involve computers and special software, but they are not legal in most jurisdictions so I will not venture into those areas.

Dvds recorded on video to dvd recorder wont play elsewhere

Mosr DVD recorders have a "compatible" setting or require you to "finalise" the disc. Check that is being done.

It's also worth checking that the laptop will play other DVDs sometimes you need a codec.

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)

Dear FixYa Team,

Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.

Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.

Thanks again.

Tevion player shows BAD DISC,

Since the unit is under warranty, you can't touch anything without voiding the warranty. This problem could be as simple as a dirty lens. Bring the unit in for repair under warranty.

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
