Belkin 9050 version 3 wireless adapter have downloaded beta vista 32 bit but havent got a clue what to do next to get connected. tried belkin support web page and phoned but need idiot proof instructions

We'll start with the Driver, and see.

A Driver is a small piece of software written, to allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.
Windows XP is one example of an O/S, and the wireless adapter, is an example of a device.

Scroll the page down to the heading - Wireless LAN
You will see there are several drivers listed.

There are several things that need to be matched up, in order to download the correct driver.

1) The Operating System.
What O/S is installed on the laptop?
Windows XP, or Windows Vista?

2) What wireless module is installed in the laptop?
What manufacturer is it?
Atheros, Broadcom, or Ralink?


1a) Operating System.
This one is easy. You know which O/S is on your computer.
However you may need to find out which version it is.
32-bit (x86) ot 64-bit.

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
The Windows version is listed at the top.
Windows Vista x86 is the 32-bit version.
Windows Vista x64 is the 64-bit version.


2a) To find out the wireless module (Adapter) manufacturer perform this;

Windows XP:
Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

Now left-click on the Hardware tab. Then left-click on Device Manager.
After Device Manager has fully loaded, left-click on the + sign next to - Network adapters.
Do you see Atheros, or Broadcom, or Ralink, listed?

Write down the wireless adapter manufacturer name.

Windows Vista:
Left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
Left-click on Properties, then follow the above as listed out for WinXP.

If it is an Atheros wireless adapter, see if it has T77H053, or T60H976 listed next to it.
There is a specific driver listed for these two models.

An example;
If you know that the wireless adapter is Not an Atheros, and Not one of the two models, T77H053, or T60H976, there are 7 drivers listed.
(These 7 drivers are listed in-between the T77H053, and T60H976 models)

The first two drivers listed are for Atheros. (Under the T77H053 heading)
The first Atheros driver is for Windows XP.
The second Atheros driver is for Windows Vista.

For an example, if you have Windows XP as an O/S, and an Atheros wireless adapter, you would use the first Atheros driver listed.

Not an Atheros wireless adapter?
Let's go on to Broadcom, then.

The first Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 32-bit version.
The second Broadcom driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.
The third Broadcom driver listed is for Windows XP. (32-bit version)

In Vista left-click on the Windows logo button, then Right-click on Computer.
You are looking at the System Properties window.
At the top portion will tell you what operating system you are using, and what version.
32-bit (x86) or 64-bit.

The first Ralink wireless driver listed is for Windows XP.
The second Ralink driver listed is for Vista, and the 64-bit version.

Confusing? Isn't meant to be.
If you find out what Operating System you are using, and what wireless adapter, using what I have posted above, simply state this information in a Comment, and I will guide you to the correct driver.

Once you left-click on the correct driver file you need, a small window will come up on the right side.
It starts with, "Opening........" in the heading at the top of the small window.

Left-click on OK at the bottom of the small window.
A small window will come up on the left side.
In the wording of the heading at the top of this small window, tells you where the file will download to.

A) For Windows XP:
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording of the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen

My Documents: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents

Downloads: Left-click on Start, then on My Documents, then DOUBLE-click on Downloads.


B) Windows Vista:
It may have Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads, in the heading.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen.

Documents: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents.

Downloads: Left-click on the Windows logo button, then on Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads.


C) When you see the file name, DOUBLE-click right on it. (Opens the file)
The Installation Wizard will come up.
Follow the easy instructions.

(Essentially just click on Next, next, and Finish at the bottom of the windows. DO NOT alter any settings, as Windows knows THE correct place to put the wireless driver file)

I know it's a lot to take in, but instead of replying back, and forth to obtain the information needed, (What O/S, what wireless adapter), I posted all of it for you to see.

As stated, if you post the O/S (Operating System), and what wireless adapter it is, and I'll guide you.

[Windows is a 'funny' animal. Sometimes drivers are lost.
It isn't actually that the driver isn't there anymore, it is the address to the driver that is lost ]

There is one there, it's beta but it should work.

You don't actually need a driver to set it up. Just plug it into your network, then browse to its URL (likely 192.168.1.1, but could be 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.2.1). Then just follow the prompts to configure it. Hope that helps.

I think your adapter doesn,t support Win 7.Also i note that your adapter model is F5D5050.

Windows 7 official release is in Oct. The Windows 7 version you have is probably the Release Candidate version, this is the last Beta version before its offical release. This version does not have drivers for a lot of devices and if you cannot download the driver from Netgear WEB site at this stage then you have to wait until it becomes available.
The release Candidate will shut down every hour early next year and will stop working completely in June. You will be forced to buy Windows 7 or go back to XP or Vista.

This means you are using Vista x64, the 64-bit version.
It accepts only drivers which are signed by microsoft.
Make sure you are downloading 64-bit drivers instead of 32-bit.
According to this article, Belkin supports the signed drivers.
If there are no 64-bit drivers they will come available soon...

the 5th line under adapters is USB200M V2 (version 2 of the adapter) - if this is your adapter's version (there is a version 1 of this adapter too) there appears to be a 32 bit Vista driver.

buy a better one - netgear or something less cheap and nasty
