I turned on my camera with fresh batteries and the lens extended then it shut down but the lens stayed extended. I then tried to view on the favorites button and things work internally (such as picture viewing etc.) but it won't take pictures and the lens seams to be jammed in the extended position. My camera is a Kodak Z650.

The problem in the cc circuitry and the motor driver, depending on parts availability it may be repairable, or total lens replacement may be required.

I have a casio digital camera qv-r52 3x optical zoom when I turn power button on it will not stay on the lens retracts but I can view the pic's on the dish

Katie, Joe alerted me to your problem. The symptoms that you're experiencing suggest that you're experiencing a lens error. Lens errors are fairly common, but there are many causes. Some causes include poor or drained batteries. Or sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns Off Fix

Does your Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns On Then Turns Off right away?
Does your Kodak EasyShare Z740 Turns Itself Off with new AA batteries in it?

Many of these Kodak EasyShare Z740 cameras that shuts off right away and will not stay on, will actually stay on if you select FAVORITES to view pictures, but just flash back and turn off if set to auto or camera mode. Try this.

If the lens cannot extend, the camera will turn itself off. You can try giving the camera a thump with the heel of your hand, but I would recommend servicing the camera rather than smashing a delicate digital instrument. After trying the steps below, a last chance alternative that works for some people is to grab and actually PULL the lens out as it tries to extend itself. Again, its delicate; if you can afford it, maybe pay for servicing before hitting and pulling on your camera.

However, before servicing your Kodak Z740 try this fix:

  1. Hold down the Time/Ascending Folder button (the button under OK on the circular panel)
  2. While holding that down, press and hold the ON/OFF button.
  3. The camera may turn itself on and stay on this time, acting normally again.

If this doesn't work for your try this:

  1. Hold down the '>' button (the one that brings you to picture review)
  2. While holding that down, press and hold the ON/OFF button.
  3. The camera may turn itself on and stay on this time, acting normally again.
If that doesn' t work, try again with the 'Trashcan' button, and ON/OFF button.

I hope that helps.

My camera has a "lens error". It will not contract back and stays out in zoom...it beeps and gives me this message to start, but doesn't do anything.

Hi,

The problem is actually quite common throughout all camera brands. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended.

1.Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. If that didn't work, try pressing and holding the Function or OK button while turning the camera on.

2.
Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install new batteries, and turn on the camera.

Thank you !!

KODAK Z1275

I semi resolved the problem with my Kodak Z1275 with this suggestion; Step 1, making SURE the batteries are good. Then, position the camera with the lens pointed up or down (depending on stuck lens position, USE GRAVITY AS YOUR FRIEND) and gently tap on the lens just as you turn on/off the camera. You may have to do this several times before the camera will close the lens. From my research this camera has a faulty mechanism for the lens which causes the software to recognize a lens failure thus shutting down the camera. Poor designed lens mechanism! I now am using my camera again, but regularly have to remember to allow gravity to assist in lens opening (turning on) and lens closing (turning off) as well as occasionally giving it a light tap or in extreme cases lightly assisting the lens opening/closing. Hope that helps! Oh and I don't suggest buying another Kodak camera!

Shutdown sometimes fails - Lens retracts then immediately extends again

I am having the same problem with my camera. I have to take the batteries out to get it to shut down. I also cannot view my photos on the camera, when I try to turn it to view, it goes to shoot mode.

Camera beeps loud 3 times and shuts right off!!

sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
