Apple iPhone 4 Black Smartphone Logo
Posted on Jan 09, 2011

I just set up a home wifi using a D-Link DIR-655. I have connected my iPhone 4 using the wifi connection. I can receive e-mails, however, cannot send them using the wifi. I get an circular icon at the top left that just continues to go round and round. I've waited up to ten minutes with no sending. The only way to stop the attempted sending is to turn off the iPhone and then back on. The message I tried to send is not in the Send box and is now lost. Any suggestions?

Can you send using 3G connection? because if you can, it is possible that your wifi network is blocking the iphone to send emails. have you also checked if there are other SMTP servers that you can activate for you to be able to send emails?

DIR655 Will not allow my iphone to access my wifi network

Home wireless networks usually need a wireless password, make sure you know this before you try and connect with your iPhone. If your wireless network is named something generic (like d-link), your phone may have a hard time connecting, rename it to something unique.

I am not able to connect my iphone to my home wifi (which uses dlink-DIR 615). I am able to connect my iphone with other unsecured wireless networks. But, mine is a secured one (WPA). Do I have to change...

No, just like when you set up a wireless connection for the first time with a home network, you need to input the network key. As long as you have the key handy, it should work!! For example, when I connect my iPhone to home network, I see my network name "553c" and I "touch" that and it asks what kind of security it has (unless this has changed, my iPhone is 1st generation) so I pick WEP (you will pick WPA of course : ) )and then it prompts for the network key. Hope this helps!!

WPA is not very stable and I have seen many problems with this. Simply change router setting to be configured with WEP and use a good strong password in hex 0-9 and a-f . WPA is horrible any way, and who the heck is gonna sit out side your home to hack it? It is not a WIN 7 problem but more like aging encryption.

I have the DIR-655. Poor coverage/Signal strength

What kind of construction surrounds your router? Weak signal indicates walls reducing signal strength. Try a repeater in weak areas.
