How do I remove the chuck from my drill press

Need to know what make and model drill press you have. You could have a taper or a threaded chuck setup. If threaded it would turn opposite drilling rotation and the may be a screw inside the chuck that needs to be loosened/removed and if it is a taper you need a removal tool to pop it out with.

IS WRONG . FOR THE DEWALT
Magnetic Drill Press DW 151I ALMOST DESTROYED A $500.-!,000 DRILL READING HIS ADVICE
THE ABOVE DRILL HAS A 1/2" X 20 THREAD THAT THE CHUCK
THREADS ONTO. LEFT TO REMOVE AND RIGHT HAND TO REPLACE YOUR NEW CHUCK . YOU CAN TAKE A PIPE WRENCH AND AFTER PLACING THE DRILL ON THE SIDE PUT THE PIPE WRENCH AT/ON THE END OF THE OLD CHUCK AT ABOUT 2 o'clock. Once set up slap
the pipe wrench very hard/fast with a suitable hammer . It took about three times to knock the chuck loose and then I removed it with my hands. A little crude but it worked. Have a good one.

How do you remove the chuck from a Craftsman Model #315.11441 3/8 vsr corded drill? Am trying to remove the chuck but I believe there is some type of a set screw or locking mechanism that needs to be undone. I can see a slotted screw head in the chuck Looking straight down on it but it is very tight and I don't want to break it or a screwdriver forcing it. Thanks for input. Bob

I have a model 1689 drill press with a 33 taper jacobs chuck I need to remove the chuck to put a larger chuck on is the smaller chuck threaded on and if it is, is it RH or LH thread and how do you hold the...

you dont hold it, the chuck is a taper fit and you would need wedges to remove it. the newer chuck would also have to have the same taper to work. if replacing the new chuck you would need to make sure the parts are clean, use a brake cleaner and a paper towel to clean them and then they would press together. Let me know if you still need more assistance.

Can't remove the chuck on my mastercraft drill press.

generally they are a taper fit, is there a slot cut into the spindle?? If so you should have a wedge when you bought it to slide into the slot and tap with a hammer to release the taper shank. Let me know if it is something other than that. on some of the Jacobs chucks they also made special wedges that you put in from either side to remove it again tapping one wedge at a time to put equal pressure on them.

- How to remove bad chuck?

Non reverse drills often do not have a screw, best way to remove is to lock drill in vice, lock a large right angle driver into chuck and give it a good crack with a hammer in an anti clock wise direction.

Remove and replace the chuck

Most drill press chucks are held on with a screw. Open the chuck all the way. Look inside the chuck, there should be a screw in the bottom. Some are left hand threads, some are not. Good Luck
