We have an Oki 5200c and are printing color postcards on 110 lb card stock. The properties for the printer are set to heavy paper. We have tried using the regular drawer and almost immediately it stops...

Wrong size paper or paper setting in the software settings. Or the dreaded plastic gear/roller cam has warn down. You'll notice some parts are plastic designed to ware out.

Paper jam message, but actually no paper jam

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Paper jam

Hi there,

Here is the most important thing to understand about paper jams in any printer....

The printer does not know if there is a paper jam anywhere in the printer.

What it does do, is respond to sensors ( optical sensors, either open or closed, by plastic flags). These flags are moved as paper moves through the paper path.

One example of a paper jam message when there is really no paper jam, is when the feed rollers are worn and do not pick up paper from the paper tray.

When you start printing, the printer expects that first sensor to open ( paper passes the sensor ) at a very specific point in time. If the paper did not get picked up from the tray, then the printer will ASSUME that the paper must be jammed somewhere because it did not reach it on time.

Now this will also happen if in fact the paper did get picked up and then jams prior to the sensor.

So... if you get the picture of how this works, understand then too, that if the printer is showing a paper jam message at power on, then one of the flags is open when it should be closed.

If you do not actually have a piece of paper holding this flag in the open position, then the flag is possible broken.

I usually see this kind of damage occur after a true paper jam, where the paper is removed either in the wrong direction ( pulled out back the way it was going instead of the way it should normally travel ), and this breaks the flag, or it was pulled out forcefully again, catching on and damaging the flag.

All of the above pertains to ANY printer, and not just yours. you must take care to fully inspect every inch of the paper path, from the paper tray, to the exit, use a flashlight, and look for the sensors and make sure they are not blocked or broken.

Good luck,

Cory

202 pam jam

usually it means that a sensor in your fuser is bad. If you have a P.M. Kit replaced the fuser and clean the printer.

but before you do, make sure that you have cleared all jams, including in the fuser.

Its probably time for a Preventive Maintanence
