You are either using too much detergent per wash or not using HE grade detergent made for front loaders. Hope this helps!

The SUD message indicates the control or pressure switch senses suds in the water. Run the machine empty with hot water only to clear any soap residue out of the machine. Cut back on the amount of soap used and use only HE detergent in the machine.

SOURCE: DEUT WHIRLPOOL -problem during wash cycle

This advice is for Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite model FRONT LOADERS displaying the "F24" Error Code. Some of the error codes on these model washers can be erroneous, however. The first step in troubleshooting any error code is to simply unplug the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main "brain" of the washing machine. If the error code reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a genuine problem.

"F24" is an indication of a water temperature sensor (NTC) error, or Heating Circuit failure. Check the Water Temperature Sensor and check connections to the Water Temperature Sensor.

To access, you will have to UNPLUG your washer and remove the lower access panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: If you place a 2 x 4 under the front feet of the washer, it will make access to the screws much easier. If the panel sticks, a tap on the sides will knock it free. The panel will drop down then come off. The sensor (NTC) is located at the base of the wash tub in the front on the heating element. This will be a small square shaped plug between the heating element terminals. Make sure this plug is secure and not loose or unplugged. It is common for the connector plug to come loose due to vibration. If the plug is intact, check the contacts for corrosion. If everything appears as it should, then unplug the wire harness and take a resistance check. Readings will be as follows:

Temperature Meter Reading
32°F (0°C) 35.9 K ohms
86°F (30°C) 9.7 K ohms
104°F (40°C) 6.6 K ohms
122°F (50°C) 4.6 K ohms
140°F (60°C) 3.2 K ohms
158°F (70°C) 2.3 K ohms
203°F (95°C) 1 K ohms

Roughly...around 9K ohms at room temperature if I'm reading the chart correctly. Take readings as listed and also double check the connector to make sure it is not oxidized. Try cleaning the plug and reconnecting to see if the error code goes away. If not, you will probably have to replace the sensor. If the sensor checks good, take a reading across the heating element terminals. It should indicate about 15 ohms.

Lastly, remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws holding the panel in place in the rear. Once the screws are removed, slide the panel back then off. Locate the Central Control Unit (CCU) directly behind the wash tub. Take a resistance check at the Heating Element Solenoid by removing connector 9 from the CCU (this is the second connector from the RIGHT as facing from the front). A reading across test points 1 & 2 should also read 15 ohms.

I have showing 5d does not spin what does it mean

This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.
Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

What does it mean if the washer is not draining and has a flashing f where the time shows?

I have the manual for this machine. Under "Code 21" it says the following:
"F21" (Drain Problem) Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check the following: Is the drain hose kinked? Is the drain hose frozen? Is the drain hose clogged? Is the drain hose more than 96" (2.4 m) above the floor? Plug in washer or reconnect power. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
For "SUDS" code, the following:
"SUD" (Suds Routine) When excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This routine removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. "SUD" is displayed during rinsing to inform you that Suds Routine was activated. Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents.
Here is some more information that may help you as well:
"F" Codes other than F20, F21 and F22 Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Select DRAIN & SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
I hope this is of some help to you, Please rate and comment, Thank You

Do you know what problem 5d or Sd means

SUDS LOCK (Overdose of Detergent detected during the Wash Cycle)

The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

My maytag clothes washer Bravo quiet series 300, keeps flashing a Sd error code. Or it may be 5d

What does the Sd code mean?

This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Use only HE High Efficiency detergent for BravosTM washers.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is flashing?

This indicates the washer was not able to clear all the excess suds from the washer. Re-select your desired cycle using cold water. Press Start/Pause. Do not add detergent.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing?

If "Sd" is displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing, allow the machine to continue running, even if it appears that nothing is happening. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the wash action will pause to allow the bubbles in the suds to break, and the washer will add water for better rinsing. This rinsing process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?

Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drain hose, drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose.

To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.

If Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel does not work:

  1. Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
  2. Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start/Pause.

NOTE: If the error remains on the display, and all of the other questions above have been checked, call for service.

Washing machine stopped and says "sud". What does that mean?

SUDS DETECTION

During Drain Routine

During the Drain Routine, the water level is checked continuously. Normal drain will occur until the

pressure switch senses no water in the wash tub and there is no foam (suds). The drain pump will

operate an additional 15 seconds after the pressure switch reports no water or foam.

If the drain routine operates for four (4) minutes and the pressure switch senses any foam (suds) in

the wash tub, the Central Control Unit will start the "Kill-Foam" Routine. (See description of this

Routine below.) After the Kill-foam Routine is concluded, the Drain Routine will restart. If, after

four (4) minutes the pressure switch still senses foam in the wash tub, the Central Control Unit will

go into Failure Mode. The digital display will show, F02.

During Spin (Extract) Routine

During the Spin/Extract Routine the water level is checked continuously. If, during this routine, the

pressure switch senses the presence of foam (suds) in the wash tub, the Central Control Unit will

stop the drive motor and the basket will stop spinning. The electronic control will count the number

of spin repetitions that are attempted due to foam (suds). There are a maximum of three (3)

attempts for each Spin/Extract Routine.

Kill-Foam Routine

1. The Remaining Time counter is stopped.

2. The digital display shows Sud.

3. The Drain Pump is turned OFF.

4. The Central Control Unit will fill the wash tub with 1 gal. (4 L) of cold water.

5. While the tub is filling the basket will tumble 1 sec. ON/15 Sec. OFF.

6. Once the tub is filled, the drive motor will turn OFF and the basket will rest without any

movement for five (5) minutes.

7. After the five (5) minute rest, the remaining time counter will restart and the digital display

will show the remaining time left in the routine.

NOTE: If the Kill-Foam routine was initiated during a Spin/Extract Routine, the tumbling action

will be reduced to a cycle of 3 sec. ON/13 sec. OFF. If, at the end of either the Drain or Spin/

Extract Routines, a suds condition still remains, the digital display will show Sud.

Sud will also be displayed for a short period at the end of a cycle, if a Suds condition was

detected during the cycle. This will alert the consumer to reduce the amount of detergent in
subsequent uses.

What does SUD mean?

SUD means a detection of suds in the machine. These machines are very sensitive to over sudsing. Try adding just plain water or bleach to break down the suds level. They say to use 1/4 of the detergent you would use in an older machine.

If you see "Sud" or "Sd" with the Rinse status light on, the washer is in the process of removing suds. Let the cycle finish

If you see "Sud" or "Sd" and the Cycle Complete light is on, the washer detected too many suds during the cycle and your load may not be fully rinsed or water may not be fully removed. You may want to select a Rinse/Spin cycle for further rinsing.

How do you get the 'suds' to stop appearing on the screen. have tried rinsing but it wont let me.

SUDS = suds detected during wash cycle.
Do you see suds visible in the drum?

Do you have any other failure codes appearing?
Unplug unit and plug it back in attempt to run the rinse cycle. If it does not work it could be a clogged filter.
Remove lower front panel place a pan under the white filter. located near the pump. Remove the unit and clear any debris.

Hit pause to add other clothes to the cycle, stopped running and now flashing sud and nothing happening. can't stop the machine to start over

Hi

This happens when SUDS LOCK (Overdose of Detergent detected during the Wash Cycle). The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds. You need to follow these steps:

  • If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle, then a Normal cycle, without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check Wire Harness connectors to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check/Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
  • Check Drain Pump
  • Check Pressure Switch
  • Check CCU

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

F2 flashing on display screen washer won't continue cycle????

This means that the drain time has exceeded 8 minutes and the water valves have turned off. After 4 minutes the suds error is displayed then 4 minutes later the F2 error.
Potential causes
1.Check drain hose for kinks or cloggs
2.Check electrical connection at the pump and make sure the pump runs.
3.Check inside of pump for foreign objects
4.If none of the above fixes the machine replace the pump.
