I'm running a Dell XPS, gen 2, with the Sondy CDRW DVD CRX880A. My wife has told me it has had "difficulty" with music CDs in the past, but has run DVDs and CDROMs just fine. Well, I tried running a program disk, Logitech webcam, and nothing happened save for the drive light flicking and noise being made. I tried using the run command, as well as the icon. I've tried updating the driver (I had the latest), rolling back the driver (nothing to roll back to), and uninstalling the driver (no beans either); after all of that, I at least got the drive to tell me there is no disk inserted, but there certainly is. I've also updated the firmware from Dell, deleted the lower registry in regedit (the upper didn't exist, and neither will show up anymore at all), and physically removed the drive and plugged it back in. I've even cleaned the lense too. I've tried CD, DVD, and CDROM; nothing works. Any ideas? Maybe if I can get the upper and lower registries in regedit to come back, but how? Thanks.

My cd/dvd will not open and whenI manually open it and put a cd in, it doesn't detect it. Same reen light and noises, but that's all.

I have the exact same problem. Will not open even if I tell it to eject. Will not detect CD. Tried removing lower and upper filters. Remove and replaced dvd. Also tried updating firmware. Tried flashing bios. No good. Getting Error code 2000-0147 spindle error when running Dell diagnostics.

Started right after I removed Antivirus 1 virus and performed Vista update.

Almost any slim CD/DVD will work. Remove the adaptor from the end if the one you have (if it has one) and put it onto the new.

My dell d610 laptop has dvd/cd rw i want to know if this means i have dvd rw too if not what should i buy so that i will have dvd rw hopefully it will be something i just plug in this is my first computer...

Your built in CD Drive is a DVD player and regular CDR - CDRW burner, this means you cannot burn DVD's. To burn DVD's I would recommend you purchase an external DVD burner, here are some links to ones that are compatable to your computer.

Philips SCB5265 DVD/CDRW drive only reads CDs but not DVDs

Take a can of air and blow it on the laser then try to see if it will read both cd's and dvd's. If it doesn't read one or the other then the dvd-rw would need to be replaced.

if the cd/dvd drive is not listed in my computer or its if its not listed in device manager try this

delete the upper and lower filter from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

Writing to a DVD+RW disc

You need to use DVD software such as Nero that supports DVD-RW. from the app is where you would erase and so on
