    Hi,

sounds like a high voltage issue, it will have to go in, i dont recommend self servicing that. may sound strange but Ive seen several tvs go by way of spouse having a plant above or near the tv, that person watering it and a few hours later mad spouse sitting in front of a busted tv that sounded just like that. also I had a cat that sprayed one and it did that. just a couple ideas for ya.

      hi,

call a local tv repair shop and ask them, I would say around 100.00 for service and 100 for parts so 200.00. Take it in or call in for an estimate if your fond of it. My sanyo 35" in crt tv was 577.00 at wal mart a few years ago and has given me no problems, I would go to walmart first and check prices, craigslist for used one or maybe scratch and dent sale at a big tv store or something might save you some bucks .

    Picture color is distorted.

Try turning off power and let set cool completely. Then turn back on. Letting it cool complety re-arms the autmatic degaussing circuit. It may take several cycles to completly clear it up.

Green screen and distorted picture sound is good but no picture

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.

Have it service by a qualified person.

My Philips 20' TV Dead condition

If you still haven't thrown the set away . . . The ticking noise can come from different sources; either a relay that is tripping so the set doesn't burn your house down, or the horizontal output transistor is shorted shutting the set down, or there are failed components in the power supply.
I'm not sure which 'line transformer' you suspect but it isn't a likely place to look for this problem.

Color switches to b/w, then a click, then color, then b/w, click, etc.

    Good day.

I think your problem is with the crt circuit. It is the one on the rear of your picture tube. Some loose connections may occured in there. Also, check if the flyback is arching. Sometimes, the voltage on the flybach itself causes this.

    Picture distorted

    Hello buddylaw,

Can you post a picture of the TV screen with the problem? It will help in the diagnoses. It looks like you may have a thermal sensitive component causing this issue. But I will have to seen a picture of the screen to properly diagnose this problem as to the possible section that may be causing this problem.

    Thank you.

    TV will not switch on

It sounds like you may be on the right track. Also you could have a problem in your Horizontal Deflection circuit. Since you say it flickered, you may have a solder joint that was arcing. Probably in the horizontal circuit. I found a capacitor which was arcing in this circuit. I was a small disk type. NOW since it is chirping, the horizontal output transistor may have shorted placing too much of a load on your power supply. The noise you hear is the power suppply trying to start. Stargazer
