We have a denon avr-589 5.1 system. It worked great until my son tried to hookup the wii into it. We now have no sound on the tv and dvd player. He normally plays the wii through the samsung flat screen tv. We have sound on the samsung tv.

Foxtile,
How funny my son just did the same yesterday!

Make sure that the speaker selectors and the input modes are set correctly. He must have hit both buttons at the same time which turned off the speaker outputs and changed the input mode to a setup we were not using.

Need a manuel fer denon avr589

There are several support documents for the Denon AVR-589 available on the product page: https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/avr-589 . The current link to the owner's manual is http://assets.denon.com/DocumentMaster/us/AVR-589-OM-E_105A.pdf . There are also Quick Start Guides.

I hope this helps.

This is a site where you can download a manual. I'm not familiar with Denen however, you should be able to go out of satellite receiver(HDMI) to your receiver input(tv/sat) then to your HDMI input on tv. Your receiver might show video and sound through another port of receivers options, ie; video 1, video 2, etc. Check all putput options for your picture and sound. Hope this helps.

No picture with cable to denon AVR-589

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.

Video Inputs for Denon AVR 589

manual is here: http://www.usa.denon.com/AVR-589-OM-E_006.pdf

Note on page 11 says "because video signals are out put from the AVR-589's monitor output terminal IN THE SAME FORMAT AS THE VIDEO SIGNALS, THE MONITOR OUTPUT TERMINAL SHOULD BE THE SAME TYPE AS THE TERMINAL USED FOR INPUT."

You cannot mix the HDMI with the others. You must therefore use the same on DVD and Cable box.

Best Regards and happy new year!

Denon AVR 887 Upconversion With Wii

I have this hookup and it's working almost perfectly:

Wii --component--> Avr-887 --HDMI--> Sharp LCD TV

Sometimes the pictures don't show up during start up, but I figured it was (probably) due to Sharp's HDMI handshake issue, so I turned the TV off and then on, everything works.

Poping in speakers

Same issue with my AVR-589...2-15 minutes after sound is playing (via TV or DVD). I checked all wires and speakers. Even reconfigured to audio only (analog) coming in, same issue. Put my old Denon receiver in and the problem disappears...possible overheating issue with this new unit?
