Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer. Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL http://192.168.1.1 The default login = admin The default PW = admin You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place) Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access. Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer. The router works only if the network is unsecured. When you secure the wireless network , make sure that you will change the wireless network name also. Because if you change the wireless security and if you keep the same network name then your computer will try to connect to the same network name with the old unsecured settings saved on the computer. Try to change the SSID ( network name ) and security to WPA, check if that works. If that doesn't work then I believe you will need to upgrade the FIRMWARE of the router.

The wireless settings in the Belkin has been setup with encryption.
You can restore the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and press the RESET button for 7 secs.
It is not wise to leave your wireless router unsecured, anyone can access your network and Internet connection and use up your allocated download limit. Once you exceed your download limit you could be slug with addition charges - this depends upon your contract with your ISP.

Problem solved. I disabled the security on my network. I connected the new laptop to the unsecure network. I saved the settings on the laptop for the unsecure network. I rebooted the laptop. I re-enabled security on the router. I tried to connect to the network. I got an error on the laptop saying the network saved settings did not match. I modified the settings to a secure network on the laptop and saved the 128 bit key. Rebooted everything. All works fine now.
The Wireless Security of the router doesn't match your laptop's wireless settings. Make sure you configure the wireless security password correctly on the laptop. If you don't know your wireless password, try these steps:
-Connect your laptop hard wired to the router. -Open Internet Explorer and on the Address Bard type http://192.168.1.1 press enter. -It will prompt you for username and password. By default, there's no username and on the password type admin and hit OK. If admin didn't work, type your own password for the router. -When you get to the Setup page, click on Wireless Tab, then click the sub-tab Wireless Security. -Look for Security Mode. If Security Mode is WPA-Personal, the Passphrase is the wireless security key that you need to enter on the laptop's wireless settings. If the Security Mode is WEP, the WEP Key 1 is your wireless security key. Connect to the wireless network and type it in. That should solve your wireless connection problem.
http://192.168.2.1 from a connected pc (use a cable you dont want to change settings over wireless and not be able to change it back) will start the router web interface, where you can read the help screens on how to, then set the router to one of several secure modes that it supports
first need to reset your router push the reset button at the back of the router for for 10 sec. then open internet explorer type 192.1681.1. enter type password admin enter ,..configure again your router enter the IP address. , Subnet mask , and DNS put the setting Static IP ,next click mac address clone and click "clone your pc mac" then click wireless at wireless network mode put it mix, at wireless channel put to the highest ghz. then after that check your line by trying to conect to the other pc using your UTP cable if it is working connect it again to your laptop
You didn't specify what router you are using and what type of connection. I assume you are using wireless connection from your laptop. What you need to do is setup security on your router. I can't give you any specifics because I don't know the model of your router. Please read documentation and try to go to wireless security on your router and setup 64-bit WEP then specify 10-digit code. Save your configuration. Try to connect your laptop to the network. If it prompts specify the same WEP security then enter the same 10-digit code. It should work.
