I have conflicting advice one solution suggests power supply fault and the other suggests faulty convergence IC's neither provided how to fix the fault

  • carole heaven Jul 12, 2008

I already have a manual which does not contain the information I require to fix this problem. Can anyone actually provide a diagnosis and step by step solution to fix this fault

Hi

As you have seen there are many varying opinions on what is causing the problem for your television. Needless to say, the set has an electronic FAILURE, and will require repair work in an area indicated by the three flashes. As Ginko has suggested, it is probably in the convergence stages. If have good experience at soldering and fault-finding a complex device such as a TV, then you should be able to just leap in, locate and replace the offending convergence IC, dry or failed electrolytic capacitors, pico circuit protector fuses, and fusible resistors. . If this is all mumbo jumbo to you, then attempting to fix the set yourself may be the wrong approach. Dont forget the residue voltage and high voltage present in the set THAT STOP YOUR HEART AND CAN KILL OR INJURE YOU!! Please take this advice. Get a repair a qualified repair tech to have a look at it for you. You have a good idea of what the problem actually is, so ring a tech or 2 and ask them what the 3 flashes mean. If they know Toshiba TV,they will then tll you exactly what I have have just said to you. Well it is what I would say to you at least....

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, please get back to me here, or use the ASK function to go straight to me :) If you are still unsure, have problems, or we need to look at the situation more deeply, then before you give a rating for this advice, hit the ASK button Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Well with 3 seconds of sound and no picture I'd Say the Back light is shot, and when the tv detects this it trips the fail safe and displays the error code in the blink,,

    Check your back light

Here are Panasonic flash codes:

Flashes : Fault:
1 ----------------- +140 v.
2 ----------------- Low DC
3 ----------------- Convergence
4 ----------------- HHS
5 ----------------- IC 4011
6 ----------------- IC 4018

Three falshes codes means that one of the two convergence ICs had blown, the pico fuse at the base of IC must be tested and faulty IC replaced.

Picture went out and red light on the front by power button is blinking. When I turn TV on I can hear sound but no picture,, then TV turns off automatically after a few seconds.

Hi,
It seems problem with low screen voltage to three picture tubes in this rear projection tv.
If standby light blinks 5 times after three seconds long pause then adjust screen volts of each picture tube to solve this issue.
Screen volt adjustment requires expertise and job of professional so please call local tv repairman to help you.
Thanks.

My Sony KP-46WT500 screen shows the tv image in blue only for a few seconds, then it goes completely blank (as if it were off). Do I need to replace the bulbs?

It is rear projection TV that use 3 picture tubes of red-green-blue to show color picture on tv front screen.
Do you see standby red light blinking when TV shuts off after showing blue image for a while?
If red standby light is blinking, please count it how many times it blinks, there would be 3 seconds pause between blinks so count pause to pause and post it here to find out possible solution.
Thanks.

The flashes are fault codes. It means your system is faulty. If it is intermittent then it is more than likely a dust issue. Buy an air duster, spray out the back and restart. Should be fine

If it continues to play up then it will be a repair job

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
