Try adjusting the tension in the "Set" menu. "Tweaking" anything else may end up costing money.
First, make sure the hook area under the bobbin case is free of debris. Try a new bobbin and a new spool of thread with a new needle, full inserted. If the needle threader isn't lining up, the needle may not be in right.

Upper thread keeps breaking

The most common cause of upper thread breakage is incorrect threading. Remove all the thread, install a brand new needle, RAISE the presser foot, and then rethread from the beginning. (Verify with the owner's manual that the threading process is correct.) The other thing to check is the upper tension setting. The factory standard setting is usually the halfway point between the high and low numbers. Tweak the upper tension to achieve correct tension. Correct tension is when the upper thread and bobbin thread meet in the middle of the fabric. The upper tension is meant to be the most common method of tweaking tension. As such, a sewist should become comfortable with tweaking the upper tension.

I am having trouble with the free motion on my Viking SE. I can feel the thread sticking up on the back and the top thread keeps breaking. I have tried changing thread (four times) and changing needle...

I presume you have set the machine for free motion quilting in the Menu? There are so many things that could be causing this, and so many variables for tweaking it to optimum performance. What foot are you using? What thread? What needle? What menu setting? Have you tried loosening the top thread tension? Bobbin tension? I will keep a lookout for further posts from you with a bit more info that we can start working on. I have a Designer1, not the SE, but have used an Se so will try my best to help.

My thread keeps breaking. I got this machine

Thred breaking is one of the following: tention to tight, wrong thred, wrong needles - use jersey baal point 80/12 needles for all material and thred, bobbin tention too tight. wcbotha@yahoo.com

Thread keeps breaking and thread sometimes

I am guessing here because I don't know what kind of thread you are using but, I am guessing that you have something in the upper tension discs causing the thread to not have tension, first I would recommend if you can see in to the disc put the foot in the up position and and blow out the disc. If this doesn't work take it to you local dealer and have the tensions adjusted, also look at the needle plate and see if there are marks in the hole, if there are it would be wise to either clean them out or get a new needle plate they will severely affect free motion

you need to change your needle first. then if that does not work you may have a small area on your bobbin case that has been damaged

Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 keeps breaking needles

The threading may be out of the channels. Rethread. Put in a fresh needle. Make sure you are using an embroidery needle and a new one for each new project. You can't use YLI bobbin thread. It stinks. If all this doesn't help, take it in to be checked These work great when there is not thread stuck in the bobbin case and it is threaded properly. If all is well, it will go like gangbusters.

You can't. Believe it or not, it is supposed to be helpful! I know it is annoying though. I have owned my Husky for 10 years and it isn't something you can get rid of.
