You need to check the manual to see if your camera can use SDHC cards. If your camera is older than 4 years, (I'm not familiar with your particular model), chances are it can only use SD cards.

FORMATEAR MICRO SD HC 8GB

Depending on your laptop, 8 GB SD cards may not work. That said, insert the SD card, open Computer, right click on the SD Card icon, format.

I purchased a 4GB Sandisk Micro SDHC card and inserted it into my Samsung Gravity 2... when I tried to format it it said "Error"... and after that the phone will not even recognize that there IS an SD card...

your samsung Gravity 2 wont read the HC format, there is not much you can do sorry. the SD HC is a newer format for devices in the last year or so. Older devices will not accept the HC format cards. I did the same thing! And im in the business, easy mistake. Keep it around though you'll use it soon, just not in your Samsung. Gurvy

Should you use an 8gb sd memory card in a panasonic lumix dmc-fx3 camera ?

Hi,

The manual lists the following SD cards compatible:

4 GB SDHC Memory Card
2 GB SD Memory Card
1 GB SD Memory Card
512 MB SD Memory Card
256 MB SD Memory Card
128 MB SD Memory Card
64 MB SD Memory Card

An 8GB card may or may not work. If you try it, make sure it is an SDHC card. (Note: HC=High Capacity)

Thanks for using Fixya.

Inserted new memory card error message:memory card error unable to access format under menu

I'm guessing that you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. Unfortunately your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with your camera.

You'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

Access data on 8Gb SD card

Hello,

Some older card readers will not read the newer HC-SD cards all memory cards larger that 4gb are HC-SD. You need to get a new card reader that states HC-SD compatible. Office Depot sells them as well as many online sites. Then just plug the new reader into a USB port and go.

I Hope this helps, If so please rate my solution.

My canon sd600 is not reading PNY sdhc memory card. msg says card is locked. it's clearly not locked

HC or High Capacity is not compatible with this camera. You have to buy a memory card which says only "SD" and NOT "SDHC". Cards of 2Gb and less are usually "SD". Cards of 8Gb and more are always "SDHC" for technical reasons. Cards of 4Gb can be either, but the SDHC kind are much more common, because they're cheaper and newer.
