Hi,

do you have cats?
this may sound strange but my cat sprayed my keyboard and fried it, my cat also sprayed the front of my tower and fried the usb and power buttons. when I turned my keyboard upside down urine leaked out a little, keyboards are cheap, and now I keep a kitchen rag over it at night.

Numbers not working

The motherboard on your laptop is not the problem. It is the driver. If it was the motherboard the keyboard would not be working at all.

The keyboard driver is corrupt. Disable keyboard driver then uninstall keyboard driver.

NOTE : This will stop the keyboard from working at all make sure you find the correct page to download the correct driver, or have the correct driver for the keyboard on CD before following this procedure.

Scan for Hardware Changes and reinstall the keyboard driver.
Restart the computer.
The numbers should work now.

Just to be on the safe side, you might want to run a full virus scan.

If this does not work I would suggest that the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard may be loose. If you know how than you can fix this yourself easily. If you prefer you can take this to a repair shop and it should cost no more than 20 pounds to fix. It is just a case of opening up the front of the laptop and securing the cable.

Several keys not working on a new keyboard

The only solution to this problem is go to your control panel and set the keyboard layout correctly as per your choice. just configure your keyboard and check whether the settings are working correctly. if yours is a multimedia keyboard then try to reinstall the drivers if possible.

The @ doesnt work when you press the key

It sounds as if your notebook is not setup correctly for either the right keyboard type or correct language.

As this is a new computer, I am assuming you are using Windows 7.

Click on Start then select the Control Panel - find the option shown below for Clock, Language, and Region, then Click on the option to Change keyboards or other input methods.. Next click on Change Keyboards, and finally ensure that you have the correct Language settings for where you are and the keyboard you are using.
If needed make any changes on this panel.

Error 301 on IBM 600x

HelloThe IBM error 301 POST code means the keyboard is not responding correctly. Folowing may be the reasons:-
  • You could have a stuck key, or the keyboard cable is faulty and not making proper electrical contact.
  • You could have a faulty keyboard controller.
  • You may have a faulty keyboard which may had some fluid spilt on the keys.
  • Try clean and reconnect the keyboard cable.
If this doesn't work try connecting an USB keyboard and see if this keyboard functions correctly.

If none of these work you have a motherboard problem.

Good luck, and do rate the solution if got help

Computer boots up but wireless keyboard and mouse not recognized. Hard wired wont work either. I have the Model 5187utf and the HP Pavillion m7050e computer.

Try the wireless keyboard/mouse on another computer, to verify that they are working correctly.

Try the "hard-wired" keyboard/mouse on another computer, to verify that they are working correctly.

If so, then it's your computer's motherboard that needs to be replaced (exact replacement or an upgrade).

Product installed correctly as far as I know. Mouse is working fine. Keyboard has power - connect button beeps when pushed. Green light is flashing on receiver -- Keyboard doesn't connect for typing on...

First, try replacing the batteries with fresh ones.

Then, hold down the connect button on the receiver and on the keyboard (usually located underneath) AT THE SAME TIME for five (5) seconds, and then release them both.

Try using the keyboard.

If same problem occur, try connecting the receiver into different USB ports of the computer. Or might as well, try different computer.

Good luck!

My keyboard letter types wrongly to type @ I have to press shift and 2

UK keyboards use a different key for @.
If you wish to change the keyboard layout, you can do this by right clicking on your taskbar and select "language bar". When this is done, right click on the keyboard symbol and select "settings". Change the default language (to UK) and your keyboard will type correctly.

If none of these work you have a motherboard problem. The Thinkpad 600 is a very old laptop and it would not be worth fixing. I suggest putting your money towards a new laptop.

Acer monitor frozen & curser will not move.

If your mouse will not move, it is a problem with the computer, Make sure you're plugging it into the correct port. If it's a ps2 mouse don't plug it into the keyboard port by mistake.

Does the keyboard work? If you press the windows key does the start menu come up?

If the keyboard works, try using a USB mouse. If the keyboard does not work, try plugging the keyboard in where the mouse is and the mouse in where the keyboard is.
