I had the same problem what i did was installed firmware 2.0 on my iphone but i could not unlock it what i did then was uninstalled itunes 7.7 and installed itunes 7.5. Then i put my iphone into Recovery mode , which can be done by pressing both the home button and the power button down until the iphone turns off and then once it had turned off i released my finger from the power button still holding down the home screen button. Then once itunes had recognised it was in recovery mode i held down shift and clicked on restore at the same time. for this u need have the iphone firmware 1.1.4 download u can find this by going to
and clicking on 165 MB standalone download. Once u have downloaded this select it in the menu that will appear by doing by selecting restore whilst pressing shift at the same time. once this process has completed any errors apart from 1600, 1601, 1602 and 1603 are bad and u should redo this process any others can be ignored. Now to unlock, jailbreak and activate your phone u will need to use ZiPhone which can be downloaded from once u have downloaded and installed it make sure your iphone is connected and recognized by itunes click do it all. once this process is completed your iphone is ready for use!

How To Fix 1601, 1602, or 21 Error Codes During iPhone 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 Custom...

Are you trying to downgrade or restore your iPhone or iTouch from the official 3.1, 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 Firmware to a Custom Firmware and your iTunes displaying the following 1601, 1602, 16xx or 21 error codes? iH8sn0w has just released a utility named iREB (iTunes Restore Error Bypasser), which provides a workaround to fix these errors.
iREB is available for both Windows and MAC Operating systems. Tool runs on both iPhone & iPhone 3G with Firmware 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and also on iPod touch 1G and 2G.
So here is the work around for 1601, 1602, 1604, 16xx or 1621 Error Codes…
New version of iREB is out for 3.1.2 Devices… If you’re upgraded to the latest firmware (3.1.2 or 3.1.3) you should use this download / tool for the errors you’re experiencing. New version has additional devices and more options available.
1. Download iH8sn0w’s iREB 3.1.2 archive for Windows or Mac.
2. Start iTunes and put your iPhone in Recovery Mode; to do so, hold Home and Power button in your iPhone simultaneously and release Power button after a while (10 seconds approx). Keep on holding Home button, till you see following error message appearing in iTunes stating.
3. Now close iTunes and start iREB, following interface will open.d00f484.png

4. Now select your plugged in device in iREB 3.1.2 and it will then show the White creen after few seconds. This happens fast so if you didn’t see it don’t worry… You will also hear sounds (maybe) like your iPhone is being plugged in and unplugged from your computer… That’s normal… The ih8sn0w.exe will crash… That’s normal, as long as you get a white screen…
5. NOTE: If you still don’t see the WHITE screen, you should do this… While the device is still plugged in and iREB running, put your device into the DFU mode. PRESS and HOLD both buttons on your iPhone for 12 Seconds and then release the POWER button (Located at the top of your Device) while still holding down the HOME button… Hold down the HOME button for 30 Seconds… (Yes 30 Seconds) until you get the WHITE Screen, the iTunes will come up with a message stating it found an iPhone in Recover Mode… At this point you can let go of the HOME button… you will be asked to restore this iPhone… and the iREB tool will crash
6. Now start iTunes again and select your device (iPhone/iPod) from iTunes DEVICES tab.
7. To restore original settings on your Apple device, press and hold left “OPTION” button on the keyboard (“SHIFT” button for Windows), iTunes will give you option for Upgrade and Restore, click on “Restore” option in the iTunes and then release the “OPTION/SHIFT” button. Select .ipsw file and restore it

My i-phone 3G was unlocked, accidently upgraded to software 4.2.1 and phone became locked again. A friend attempted to unlock again and now it no longer appears on computer, itunes icon and usb plug icon...

You can try doing a restore from itunes. Plug the phone in, start itunes, then click on your phone on the left hand menu. Then restore it to factory settings. After doing that, you can try to unlock it again.

I bought a used iphone 2g on ebay and the previous users contents were still on it. So I used the "erase all contents" option in settings on the phone. It erased everything, including all the apps! Now I...

Make sure you are running iTunes 8.2. Download the 3.0 ipsw (iphone1,1_3.0_7A341_restore). Connect the phone to iTunes and wait for it to detect. Put the phone into DFU mode (hold the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds, until the phone turns off. After the phone turns off, continue holding the power and home buttons for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, release the power button but continue to hold the home button.) It should take about 10-15 seconds and iTunes will detect the iphone in DFU recovery mode. If the apple logo appears on the iphone or if the screen lights up at all, repeat the process. There should be nothing on the iPhone at all, like its turned off. Once the iPhone is connected to iTunes and is in DFU mode, hold SHIFT on your PC and click restore (Windows). Select the ipsw file you downloaded for restore. Once the iPhone finishes restoring and updating to the 3.0 firmware, jailbreak using redsn0w. After jailbreak, use ultrasn0w through Cydia to unlock. There are plenty of instruction sites for getting and using redsn0w if you don't have it already. I like, but you can probably choose from many.

Hope this is helpful, please don't forget to rate. If you have any other questions, or need any more help with this, send me an email.

Error 1604 and Kernel Panic

confirm that your firmware is compatable with your iphone.
if you have a 2G the firmware should start with 1.1 if you have a 3G the firmware should start with 1.2
apparently unlocked or jailbroken phones with the wrong firmware will brick in this manner.
not to worry, your not the only one.
do a web search for error 1604 and you will see solutions such as this below.

  • Problem: I cant restore my custom firmware. I just get error 6, 1, 2, (something low).
Solution: This has multiple causes. Generally, you are not in DFU mode. See DFU guide. Winpwn solution after ruling out the above: Delete the device file (x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw) in your iTunes folder. (Search for the file). This can also be caused by using the incorrect firmware image (a 3g on a 2g for example).
  • Problem: I am in DFU mode and I just get error 1604, 1602, 1601 (some 160x). I am pulling my hair out! What do I do?!
Solution: This one sucks. There’s no single answer for it. Here are some possible suggestions:
    • Validate you are using the correct firmware. You can get this if you are using an incompatible firmware (3g for 2g for example).
    • Restart your computer and try again.
    • Try another computer
    • Try switching USB ports
    • Uninstall and reinstall iTunes 7.7
If you are not able to get out of DFU mode even after trying one of the above fixes, click here to follow the comments on BigBoss’s website.

Iphone restoration error (1601)

I found a solution!
It worked for me and many others (who posted their gratitude on the original post).

Below are the instructions you have to follow. If you have disconnected your phone or shut your iTunes, don't worry. I did it. I even reinstalled iTunes a few times and shut down the computer as well.
Here it goes:

"The way to get over the 16xx errors while restoring on any firmware is this:
Once you get the error DONT DISCONNECT IPHONE OR CLOSE ITUNES. Which leaves us with only one option, rESTART Iphone. STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR VERSION 2.0.1:

1). You get the error. (Ofcourse)
3). If the phone is still on, reboot/restart the phone. If its off then kick it out of DFU mode which is explained in the NEXT step.
4). Press and hold the power and home button for some time to kick the phone out of DFU mode.
5). Itunes will detect it again.
6). Now try to simple-restore it, that is click on the restore button on itunes while pressing the shift button of your keyboard. YOU WILL GET THE 16XX ERROR AGAIN IN 5 MINS !!!! but dont worry, everything is under control.
7). now your iPhone will have the picture of the iPhone cable on its screen. good.
8). NOW put the iPhone it in DFU mode. How? Firstly turn the phone off (it might try to start up on its own again but turn it off again). Once its off, Press and hold the power and home button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but keep the home button pressed for another 10-20 seconds till itunes recognizes your phone.
9). NOW restore the phone by selecting the pawned custom firmware that you created and you will NOT get the 16xx error.

I got this solution from here:

Hope it works for all of you.
