Sounds like your brake pads/shoes need replaced. When the brake linings wear out, you have metal to metal when you step on your brake pedal. You may have to replace rotors/drums due to severe scarring.

SOURCE: Grinding noise when step on the break.

Hi,

The grinding noise could be indicative that the brake pads have worn off and the metal backing is grinding with the brake disc. This is further supported by the emergency brake light indicator which would illuminate (even when emergency/park brake is not engaged) when the brake fluid is low or the pads are too thin or gone (as in your probable case). Even though the grinding sound is only on the left side, it would be to your advantage to repalce both sides. Additionally, pls have the disc themselves checked as they may need re-surfacing.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Emergency brake light comes on and makes a grinding sound

The brake light will come on if your brake fluid level falls below a certain point, indicating you're losing brake fluid. Grinding noise indicates your brake pads are shot. Get to a brake shop.

Airbag light on

You have 2 separate problems. If the airbag light is on, then the control unit needs to be serviced. You will need to read the code from your diagnostic port. After that, replace the component indicated by the code.

The brake light could be low fluid in the reservoir or an indication that the emergency brake cable has stretched and you no longer get enough tension to operate the switch. Check the reservoir first. If that does not fix it, play with the emergency brake to see if you can get the light to go off. If you can, then you need to find the adjuster on the cable and tighten it.

Break alarm goes off when I take anything more than a slight right turn.

Not real sure. If there's nothing wrong with your brakes or your emergency brake then I would probably say it something electrical.

The left rear driverside wheel is grinding and the emergancy break won't engage when preesed. Although the brake light comes on. can you tell me what could be wrong

Hi

Is it drum brakes? if so it sounds like the brakes have came away inside, hence the gringing, they have springs to hold them in place, they often brake if a lot of pressure was put on the emergency brake, that or a cable has snapped and stuck them on. Quite confident that will be the issue.

Hope that helps

Emergency break pedal stuck to floor, but break is disengaged

sounds like your brake cable has broken or there is something damaged in the pedal assembly.........try pulling on the release handle and move the e-brake pedal back to its off position by hand at the same time.(you may have to tie it in this position to keep it up)If that doesnt work there is a sensor on the pedal assembly that you should be able to bypass by either disconecting the wire(1 wire system) or connecting the two wires together (2 wire system)Especially if your truck is a standard the e-brake is an important safety feature,so if these steps fix the light and dinging problem you should still take the steps to have it repaired.
hope this helps.........Good Luck!
