Remove keyboard and visible below battery holder is a small board with sliding pins , normally the number 2 pin out of the 8 is in the on position (off to left/on to right) slide 2 pin to off . Slide 6 pin on, reboot F2 for set up and you should be in ,simple as that, but magnifying glass needed to see pin numbers, 8 is nearest touchpad, 1 nearest screen.

Why does he not know the password? You DO realize that the reason often is the laptop was stolen!!
If he is the legitimate owner, he can get a hold of the manufacturer and they can probably give him a universal password that works, if he can prove he is the one who registered the computer.
You could check the manufacturer's web site for info, or in manuals or service guides for how to remove a password, but there are often no instructions for how to do that in them these days. Otherwise passwords are difficult or impossible to remove from more recent laptops and notebooks - e.g. you may have to buy a new motherboard, or a used one with no passwords, or have someone replace the chip that the password is stored on, if that's even feasable. Removing the cmos and main battery from them to remove a password hasn't worked for many years. Lots of things can cause the problem you are having. Some are not fixable the the Windows CD. You can run an XP Repair installation without having to change the boot order, and without booting from the CD.
Go to the Microsoft site and download the 6 floppy Windows XP Setup set - make the floppies, boot with the first one, and by the time the sixth is loaded you can run a normal or Repair Setup
Choose the SECOND chance to Repair if you repair - install to the same directory, and you won't lose anything already on the drive. How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

    Hi there,

My appologies for my first reply,

lack of sleep and no concentration,

I have found in the past to reset bios password is a challenge in itself,

Ok this is how I understand this process,

on the mother board is a battery whos sole purpose is to keep minimal power in reserve to power bios functions and memory.

If you remove this battery the stored info will be erased after a few minutes,

You can replace this after reset time period (approx 2 min)

Start up and away you go.boot sequence may have to be reset

to deault factory settings, save and reboot,

The system should auto recognise and continue from there.

    I hope this helps,

Ard jack which iss it

If you can find a jack for that model then you can just see which hole on the board the center pin connects to. Positive is usually the biggest pin underneath in the center of the socket. The rest of the holes are usually
-ve / ground. Just paste this in Ebay search box.

Acer travelmate 2300, bios password forget, pls can u help me

Not knowing what BIOS/CMOS is on an Acer Travelmate 2300, you can try to see if your chip is supported by the following tool:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/CmosPwd
I have used this several times, along with other tools by CGsecurity successfully.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Hi
Go onto another computer and download a copy of ERD Commander or ABF password recovery. Either of these will solve your problem. By the way a reputable repair person would have known this.
